The days after the massage crawled by, thickening the air inside the house a little more every day.

Monday morning, Logan came down while Brad was already eating. He stared straight at Angela and, loud enough for anyone to hear, said her form at the gym had transformed—faster than most people could pull off in months. Said she looked stronger. Just ... better. Neither Angela nor Logan bothered to check Brad’s face. Angela just thanked Logan, smiled. Brad’s fork hovered over his plate a half-second too long. Then he stood up, dropped his dish in the sink, and left the kitchen in silence.

On Tuesday, Angela came down in a black top that had been sitting in her closet for years. She stopped right in front of Logan and asked, casual as anything, “Does this look okay?” Brad lingered just a few feet away, listening. Logan’s eyes lingered, then he told her it looked better than okay. Angela took the compliment; no modesty or softening it. Just a thank you, then pouring coffee. Brad watched, silent, then aimed some sharp little question at Logan about gym times. It sounded normal, but there was an edge to it. Logan answered easily and moved on. Brad just nodded, said nothing, and that was that.

That afternoon, Angela laughed at some inside joke with Logan about a failed gym set. The joke didn’t mean anything to anybody else. When Brad asked what was so funny, Angela just shook her head. “Nothing.” It was a deliberate brush-off. She liked the clean, cold satisfaction of it.

Wednesday, she put on the same top again—specifically because Logan had noticed it before, fully aware Brad might also remember. When Brad was in the room, Angela mentioned, just offhand, that Logan liked the way it looked. Brad’s face just ... flattened. That night, he got weirdly attentive. Asked if she wanted tea. Tried to take over Peter’s bedtime. These little gestures felt more like territory marking than tenderness.

Thursday evening, Brad walked in and found Angela and Logan standing close, talking quietly. Angela’s hands were on Logan’s shirt collar, fingers lingering way too long. She stepped back fast when she heard Brad, but not fast enough. The look between her and Logan was obvious—too familiar. Brad stopped in the doorway. Nobody spoke. Instead of picking a fight, he turned and walked upstairs. That quiet retreat hurt more than any shout.

Friday night, Brad finally broke. In the bedroom, he came right out with it.

“What’s going on with you two?”

Angela kept her face open, even a little amused. “Nothing. We train together. We live in the same house. That’s all.”

Brad listed off the looks, the comments, the way she started checking with Logan before him. She listened, then told him he was inventing things. He stared at her for a long time. She could see the doubt, but he had nothing solid. All he said, finally, was, “Just be careful,” and rolled over. The suspicion stayed, but he was stuck. Angela lay awake, listening for the tension in his voice, counting it as one more quiet win.

That weekend, she started poking. She sat closer to Logan on the couch during a movie. She let a high-five last just long enough to brush Logan’s arm. She held eye contact longer at dinner and waited to see how quickly Brad picked up on it. Each time, she watched as irritation started to show—Brad’s shoulders tightening, him leaving the room early, or watching Logan with a colder edge.

Logan changed, too. He still played along, but he stopped steering. Instead, he kept asking her what she wanted. Something between them had shifted. The game was running on her fuel now.

By Tuesday, the routine was locked in. Logan’s compliments in front of Brad got bolder—but never so direct they could be thrown back at him. Angela didn’t bother pretending to be surprised. She dressed up. Perfume. Hair done. At first, it was all for Brad, but now ... there was another reason.

That night, after Brad went to bed, Angela sat alone in the kitchen and admitted it to herself: she wanted Logan’s attention, even when Brad wasn’t there. Just knowing Logan’s eyes were on her was enough. The thought unsettled her. She was still chasing revenge, but it wasn’t the only reason anymore. The rules had changed, and she didn’t know if she wanted them back.
