Midday
After Nefeli leaves, we clean the kitchen, change the sheets, and leave the windows open. The third cup dries beside ours. For a while I look at it as proof that last night really happened.
We eat something light and lie down intending to rest for an hour. I wake almost three hours later. The afternoon has moved on, and the house has returned to its usual quiet.
I make coffee. Manos opens the message from Stefanos and Myrto again.
The invitation includes a meeting place, a code, and one sentence:
No one is obligated to participate in anything.
Manos reads it twice.
“Reassuring,” he says. “Or at least that’s how it’s trying to sound.”
“Or worrying, depending on how often they need to remind the people who go there.”
“Do you still want to go, or are you only drawn to it because the week is ending?”
I look at the time. I’m tired, but beneath that is something restless. The last night has acquired weight simply because it’s the last.
“I want to go. And yes, maybe the fact that it’s the last night is part of it.”
“I don’t want us to do something just to give the week a bigger ending.”
“Neither do I. But I want to see if I can walk in there without feeling like I have to prove something.”
Before we leave, we agree not to go into separate rooms. If either of us wants to leave, we leave. We don’t make a longer list.
Even so, I feel pressure to go farther somehow. As if the previous six days require an ending bigger than all their beginnings.
I recognize it as a trap. That doesn’t make it stop working.
Stefanos and Myrto
The taxi drops us in front of a small hotel downtown. The bar is on the ground floor behind the front desk. Low lighting, deep armchairs, and a few tables spaced far enough apart to keep conversations private.
Stefanos and Myrto stand when they see us. They’re around our age. Myrto wears a simple dark dress. Stefanos, a jacket without a tie. They greet us as if this were an ordinary night out among four acquaintances.
That helps more than I expected.
We order a drink each. They explain how the club works, which areas are open, and that we can stay only at the main bar if that’s what we want.
“No one will ask why you aren’t participating,” Myrto says.
“Or why you stopped,” Stefanos adds.
Manos smiles.
“You’re selling this very well.”
“We’re trying to make sure you don’t feel like you have to prove anything.”
The sentence lands exactly on the place I’ve been trying to ignore since afternoon.
The conversation relaxes quickly. I like them. I can imagine spending a pleasant few hours with them.
I don’t want them.
The realization comes clearly, without disappointment. The circumstances are right, the people are kind, the interest is mutual. But there is no attraction that makes me want to move closer.
Myrto looks at me and seems to understand before I speak.
“We’re going to have a good time tonight. Just not necessarily together.”
My relief is so immediate that I laugh.
Manos lets out a breath and settles back in the armchair. I don’t have to guess whether he feels the same.
We finish our drinks and take a taxi to the club.
The Doors
The club is in a renovated industrial building. There is no sign outside. Only a metal door and a small illuminated number.
We give them the invitation code and leave our phones in individual lockers. The door closes on my screen. For the next few hours, no message, photo, or call can follow us inside.
The interior retains something of the building’s old use. Bare brick, exposed pipes along the ceiling, metal columns. Heavy curtains and dark couches soften the space without disguising what it is.
The main room has a large bar, low tables, and seating areas. Some people are talking with drinks in their hands. Others watch what’s happening in the open spaces without taking part.
We get a drink and stay with Stefanos and Myrto for a while. We sip slowly. I want to relax, not blur myself.
At the back, a corridor opens onto themed rooms. Most of the doors are open. Beside each is a small sign describing the character of the room and its basic rules.
The open doors feel like an invitation. And a challenge.
The Mirror Room
The walls are covered in mirrors of different sizes. A low bed sits in the center. Couches and armchairs line the walls for anyone who only wants to watch.
We sit down.
The reflections multiply bodies and glances. I see the people in the center, but I also see myself watching them. The same pull I felt at the hotel and in front of the camera returns. To watch. To know that I could be on display.
Manos watches what’s happening in the center first. Then his eyes move to my reflections.
“You’re looking at me again.”
“You exist in eight different mirrors. You’re hard to avoid.”
My smile appears in eight different places.
The White Room
Everything in the white room is exposed. The walls, floor, and furniture are white. The lighting is clean and bright. There is no dark corner, nowhere anyone can hide or pretend they aren’t being seen.
Manos stops in the doorway. His gaze moves slowly around the room. A week ago, he would have made a joke and looked away. Now he stays there without pretending it doesn’t affect him.
“How does it feel? Do you want to leave or stay for a while?”
“It’s difficult, but I don’t want to leave immediately. I want to see if the awkwardness passes when I stop fighting it.”
“Then we stay as long as you want. There’s no reason to rush either farther in or back out.”
He looks around the room again.
“For a little while. Then we keep going together.”
We stay until the first edge of awkwardness softens. When our curiosity settles, we leave without asking anything more from the room.
The Dark Room
The next room is lit only by small red lights near the floor. You can see movement and silhouettes, not faces.
Manos stops before the threshold.
“I don’t want to.”
“Neither do I.”
My answer comes without thought. The unknown turns me on when I can see who is in front of me. Without a face, my curiosity disappears.
We don’t go in.
The Bondage Room
The next door is heavy and padded. Inside are benches, metal rings, ropes, and equipment more severe than anything we used at home. A staff member watches discreetly from nearby.
The sight should probably remind me of the collar, the commands, the surrender.
It doesn’t.
The intensity here doesn’t belong to us. I don’t know the hands, voices, or limits of the people I see.
“This is too much for me. I don’t want to go in.”
“Neither do I. At home, I knew you and our rules. Here I don’t know the hands or the intentions of the people involved.”
I take Manos’s hand and we move on.
The Playroom
The last space is brighter and more relaxed. The music is louder. People are dancing, and the seating forms a circle around a small dance floor.
A woman kisses me. The kiss is brief and pleasant. A man pulls Manos into a dance.
I watch him for a few seconds.
“You dance like you’re dodging potholes.”
“He was leading.”
The man raises his hands.
“I tried.”
All three of us laugh.
We stay a little longer. We dance together, accept some kisses and refuse others. No one gets angry. No one asks for explanations.
Somewhere in the night, I forget that I’m supposedly meant to be heading toward something big.
The Main Room
On our way back toward the bar, we pass through the largest room. Tall curtains separate it from the corridor without closing it off completely.
In the center is a large, low bed. Around it are chairs, couches, and small tables with water, clean towels, sealed condoms, and sanitizer. Some people watch. Others talk quietly, waiting to decide whether they’ll move closer.
Three men approach us.
One of them looks at me.
“Would you like to play with us?”
The question is simple. The answer isn’t.
I look at Manos. I don’t know whether I’m asking permission or whether I simply need to see his face before I take the next step.
“I want to try.”
“Do you want me to stay here?”
“Yes. I want to see you.”
He sits at the table opposite us.
The men take condoms from the small table. The movement is natural and interrupts nothing.
I stand at the edge of the bed. The man who spoke first comes closer and kisses me. His hands settle at my waist. The tallest approaches from the other side and touches my back. The third stays a little farther away, waiting.
I respond. I kiss the first more deeply, then turn toward the taller man. With one hand, I pull the third closer.
Their bodies surround me without closing me in. Hands slide over my thighs, breasts, the back of my neck. I choose whom to kiss, which touch to keep, which one to let go.
Their attention is intense. For a few moments, it intoxicates me more than the drink.
I sit on the edge of the bed. I open the first man’s zipper and take him into my mouth slowly while my hands touch the other two. I switch and turn to the taller one. The third places a hand in my hair without pressing.
Their breathing changes in different ways. At first, I genuinely like it. Three sets of eyes on me. Three bodies waiting for my next move.
I look toward the table.
Manos is sitting with his hands resting in front of him. He watches me steadily. His fingers are tight around the edge of the table.
He doesn’t stand. He doesn’t interfere.
I turn back to the men. I move between them on my own terms. At one point I kneel so I can reach them more easily. Their hands rest on my shoulders and breasts. No one holds me. No one pushes me.
The desire is still there, but something begins to change.
Their reactions start to feel more and more alike. One more kiss. One more hand. One more body waiting. The switching becomes a motion I keep repeating because I started it.
I lift my head and look at Manos again.
His hands have relaxed on the table. He isn’t smiling. He doesn’t signal to me. He stays where I asked him to stay.
I continue a little longer. I take the first man into my mouth again, then the third.
And suddenly the thought is clear.
I can.
My body can. The men are waiting. Manos isn’t stopping me. No door has closed.
But I don’t want to.
The thought stops me more completely than I expected.
