Chapter 4

Before I opened the front door of my house, I took a deep breath and then walked in. The house was quiet. I almost thought my parents weren’t home until I heard my fathers voice.

“Shane ... please come to the living room!” The calm voice of my father came. I took another deep breath and entered into the living room. My mother and father both sat on the sofa. Mom looked pissed but didn’t say anything.

I sat down and immediately began to apologise.

“Shane please...” dad said holding up his hand. I stopped. “We need to have a talk son, you are eighteen but there are still ways we need to conduct ourselves. Running away like that is not the appropriate behaviour of a boy becoming a man. That’s the act of a child.” I opened my mouth to protest. “Now saying that, we did break some very big life changing news to you and maybe we could have handled that better. So for our part we apologise. That doesn’t negate the fact that you had your mother and I worried sick, anything could have happened to you.” He paused long enough that I knew it was my turn to speak.

“You’re right dad and I am sorry, mom” I looked right at her, her expression has softened a little. “Mom I’m sorry. I was pissed and angry but running away was not the right choice. Running away from the people who have only loved and cared for me.” I had instead ran to someone that didn’t care for me at all, someone that truely hurt me and clearly never loved me back.

“Mommy I really am” I said again. I think the hurt of finding out about Megan and Ryan, plus the hangover and the pain of being ran over was sinking back in.

“Oh sweetie” Mom said as she got up and came over and hugged me. I felt forgiven and felt safe in her arms. “We were just so worried ... Have you been drinking?” She pulled back as she looked at me. There wasn’t quite anger in her voice but I knew better than to lie.

“Yeah...” I nodded. Mom was about to say something but I stopped her. “A lot happened after I left mom...” I then proceeded to tell my parents about what happened, I went into quite a bit of detail but obviously left out the part of having sex with Danielle. Don’t think they needed to know. My mom went through a range of emotions.

“That little bitch, I owt to ring her neck, wait till I speak to her mother!” Mom raged, clearly most affected by Megan’s betrayal.

“Please mom it’s fine, it’s not fine but it’s done now. I don’t want anything to do with her or even linked with her.” Dad had stayed pretty silent during it all. Think mom was showing enough emotion for them both.

“Mmm ok if you say so ... I’m sorry sweetie. I can’t believe some girl ran you over too! Are you ok? Do we need to go to the hospital?” Mom then started to check me over with her hands.

“No mom I’m fine honestly. I think I just want to get some water and maybe get some more sleep.”

“You are handling a hangover better than I did at your age” dad joked. That was all it needed for our little family to feel normal again. Mom told him off but I could tell she was probably just as bad. I stayed with them a little longer and had something to eat before I got to my room. Mom gave me some painkillers to help with the headache and body pain, I took a good drink of water and lay on my bed.

I woke up some time later, it’s about late afternoon. I just lay in my bed and think about the fucking crazy day I had yesterday, hell crazy night. Meeting Danielle and fucking her definitely took away the lot of the sting of Megan. In truth I think her betrayal hurt more than Ryan’s. He was my closest friend. He not only fucked over me but he cheated on his girlfriend too. Fuck me, poor Averie. I was going to have fo tell her, she needed to know. I reached over for my phone and picked it up. I sent her a message asking if she was free tomorrow. I then couldn’t help but look at the pictures I took of Danielle this morning. Fuck she had an amazing body.

I was staring intently at them when Averie replied;

‘Hi Shane!! Yeah I’m free, I was supposed to hang with Ryan but I haven’t heard from him. My parents are away if you want to come over to my house? My brother will be here!’

Poor girl;

‘Ok yeah sounds good to me, just give me a time’

She gives me a quick reply to come over about one. I tell her I’ll meet her then. It’s going to be so bad breaking her heart but she needs to know. It’s so much worse for her as well, I’m leaving the school but she has to stay with these assholes.

I spend the night with my parents. We share a nice meal and watch a movie together. It was actually nice to hang out with them. I forget how funny and relaxed they can be. It’s so evident how deeply they are in love as well.

I arrive at Averies house just after one, I knock on the door and it doesn’t take long for her to answer.

“Hiya Shane! Come on in” she smiled broadly at me as she stepped back, beckoning me in.

“Hi Averie” I smile back as I enter her house. I take my shoes off and place them to the side as she closes the door.

“Can I get you anything? A drink?” She was always so polite when we came over to her house.

“Soda would be nice” I replied.

“Sure!” With a twirl she spun away and I followed her to the kitchen. Nico was in the kitchen, eating a very large sandwich, I’m surprised he could even get his mouth around it.

“Yooo Shane my man, how’s it going?” Nico boomed as he saw me, crumbs and bits of food falling from his mouth.

“Hey Nico, I’m good thanks!” I nodded back to him.

“Have fun last night?” He asked.

“Why are you asking that?” Averie asked as she grabbed a soda.

“Your friend here was at the Issac’s party last night.”

“You were?!” Averie looked at me with shock and surprise.

“Um yeah...” I reply.

“No way! Did you go with Megan?” She seemed super excited by the news.

“No I didn’t...” I said plainly. Feeling a little awkward knowing Nico was right there and not knowing how much he knew.

“No had some other girls chasing after him” Nico laughed as he nudged me.
