“Gather round one and all, gather round!” Franco called out as the crowd gathered around a table. Mikayla and myself stood at one side, Kayleigh and the almuni king, Callum, the other.
“This event is to decide who gets the advantage in the final game. We’ve got extra riding on this last event as winner takes all.” He boomed out. All the while Franco explained the game I couldn’t take my eyes off Kayleigh as she couldn’t take her eyes off me. She had to be playing mind games and it was working. The effects of my drinking starting to take real effect.
Franco had explained that the girls drink and then spit into the boys mouth and then he spits into the cup. First to fill the cup gets an advantage in the final game.
“God I’m so sorry about this!” Mikayla whispered to me and pulled my attention away from Kayleigh to her.
“Don’t be, we’ve got this, just go for it! Ok?” I reached and took her hand and squeezing it. She squeezed back and nodded.
“Seniors are you ready?” Franco asked looking at Mikayla and I to which we both nodded. He then asked the almuni and then the game began.
In fairness to her. Mikayla did go for it. She was spitting a fair amount into my mouth which I in turn spat into the cup. Each time Mikayla did it, she held my face and her lips were so close to mine. I couldn’t help but want to kiss her or want her to kiss me. A couple of times our lips did brush and touch. Just one move away from a full kiss.
“Winneerrrss!!!” Franco announced as my head was still held by Mikayla. We had lost. I didn’t bother spitting the beer out and drank it down as I looked across at Kayleigh cheering. All be it she wasn’t cheering as much as her partner.
“Fuck I’m sorry Shane, this is my fault I was too slow and umm ... Yeah sorry!” Mikayla offered.
“Hey don’t be, it’s a team game. We will just need to beat them in the final, ok?!” I reassured her. I couldn’t help wonder if she wanted to say more but she softly bit her lip and nodded.
“We have come to the final pinnacle of the games. The final event. The winner takes all. God I can barely contain my excitement.” Franco shouted as the crowd cheered.
“The last game is probably the most simple of all. No hidden rules. No hidden agendas. Just straight up classic drinking! The boat race!” He shouted and the crowd cheered more. We were all clearly getting drunk and just excited about everything.
Franco then explained that there was two rounds. The queens would drink their five drinks first and then the kings would have a turn. The winners would then race each other. The obvious thing was that if both almuni or both seniors win then the last race was purely bragging rights. Five drinks were then set up in front of Mikayla and five in front of Kayleigh. There was a shot glass at each end, a small red cup next to them and then a big red cup in the middle.
“The almuni still have their advantage, what do you want your advantage to be?” Franco asked.
“One drink head start in both rounds” Callum answered.
“Both rounds huh?” Franco mused. “What do we think people?” There was a mix of cheers and boos but the boos were louder. “Yes yes, I agree. Only one round, choose?” Franco shot back. The two of them whispered again. I could see the Kayleigh arguing with him but he seemed cocky.
“Queens!” Callum shouted.
“Queens it is!” Franco announced. “Mikayla you must wait until Kayleigh has drank her first drink before starting, ok?”
“Yeah” she nodded, I could see the nervous look on Mikaylas face.
“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. Just concentrate on drinking and don’t worry about anything else.” I tried to encourage her.
Franco announced the start and the girls went for it. I cheered along with everyone else but Mikayla didn’t really stand a chance. Kayleigh won quite comfortably.
“Kayleigh is the winner!!!” Franco called holding up her hand. The alumni cheered.
I pulled Mikayla in for a hug.
“I’m sorry.” She muttered.
“You apologise too much” I teased her as I pulled back and looked her in the face. A small tear forming which I wiped away with my thumb before stepping back. A small blissful smile on her face.
“Next up we have the Kings, no advantages, no head starts. Just man v man! Are you ready?” Franco asked us To which we both nodded.
“Drink!”
