That night at 3 AM, Jalen and Jessica were cuddled up together both naked and sound asleep. Jessica was nestled in his chest sleeping peacefully.
Jalen was then woken up by a shift in the air. He blinked groggily, his body still warm from the closeness of Jessica’s sleeping form. The room was dark except for a faint, unnatural glow that filled the space. He didn’t have to guess who it was.
The Architect stood before him, his presence otherworldly as ever, yet somehow ... pleased.
“Congratulations, Jalen Moss,” his voice echoed, though it barely disturbed the silence of the room. “It is done. Tonight marks the successful conception of the eighth and final child.”
Jalen swallowed, his mind still foggy from sleep but now sharp with realization. Jessica was pregnant, or at least she’d become pregnant as a result of the epic sex they had in her dressing room earlier.
Just like Sydney, Kristen, Megan, Rachel, Karla, Heidi, and Chrysti. Eight women. Eight children. The prophecy was fulfilled.
Jalen let out a breath, careful not to wake Jessica, his arms instinctively pulling her closer. He felt the weight of it now. The magnitude of what had just been sealed.
“So that’s it then?” Jalen asked in a hushed tone. “You just ... disappear now? No more cryptic guidance?”
The Architect somehow expressed a smile even though whatever was his face was mostly undefined. “You never truly needed me to guide you, Jalen Moss. You only needed to trust yourself, and, ultimately, you did. You have loved these women honestly, cared for them selflessly, and stood by them unwaveringly. You are the man I knew you were meant to be.”
Jalen ran a hand over his face, exhaling deeply. “I still don’t know if I can do this, man. Eight women. Eight kids. I—”
“You can and you will.” The Architect interrupted, stepping closer. “Because you already are, and it is because of who you are that you will never abandon those you love.”
Jalen met his gaze, searching for any trace of doubt in the Architect’s expression. There was none.
The Architect gave a slight nod. “Now it is up to you to continue being the man you’ve always been. A man who loves fiercely, protects, and rises to every challenge.”
Jalen sighed, shaking his head with a smile. “You ever gonna explain why all this had to happen?”
The Architect paused for a second as if considering Jalen’s question. Then he spoke again. “The eight human females who now bare your children possess a specific set of physical and character attributes that will allow them to successfully give birth and raise a prophesied human child that will one day develop into an extraordinary being that will contribute to protecting this planet from a grave future threat.
Jalen sat up a little at the Architect’s words while still being careful not to wake Jessica.
“But the mothers alone are not enough,” the Architect continued. “The prophecy requires the perfect human male. One whose genetics would perfectly harmonize with each of the eight human females while simultaneously possessing the rare strength of character, emotional depth, and unwavering loyalty needed to love and support all eight of them through the inevitable trials and tribulations of modern human life. That same human male will also need to adequately assist in raising his eight offspring in a way that will help each of them reach their full extraordinary potential.
Jalen’s eyes widened with realization. “You’re saying—”
“That you are that human male, Jalen Moss,” the Architect finished for him. “You are the only human male born in this era that could successfully fulfill this role. The outcome was never guaranteed. In fact, it still isn’t. But because of the strength of your heart and character, the prophecy still has a chance to reach its full fruition.”
Jalen just stared at the Architect for a moment, processing what he just heard. Then after a moment he snapped out of it.
“What about this threat?” Jalen asked trying to keep his voice hushed. “Can you tell me what it is?”
The Architect’s eyes narrowed slightly. “I cannot. This threat is unlike any other. It will appear in its purest form in the likes in which even I cannot foresee.”
“Figures.” Jalen responded.
“You have proven yourself capable, Jalen Moss. Your journey is far from over, but my confidence in you is stronger than ever.”
Jalen actually cracked a small smile. “Well, uh ... thanks. I appreciate that.”
The Architect gave a curt nod. “I must go now, Jalen Moss. We will meet again. Until then ... live ... love ... and lead.”
Then just like that, the Architect was gone.
Jalen stared at the empty space where he stood, his mind racing.
Jessica stirred slightly in her sleep, murmuring softly as she nuzzled deeper into his chest. Jalen looked down at her, watching the gentle rise and fall of her breath.
All of it was real. The prophecy may be on track, but this was just beginning.
Jalen took a deep breath, his resolve settling. No more doubts or hesitation. He would be there for all of them. For his eight children and his eight loves.
Because he was Jalen Moss, and this was the life he was meant to live.
Two weeks later, Jalen stood in the center of his apartment living room. His heart was beating fast.
The seven women, Sydney, Kristen, Megan, Rachel, Karla, Heidi, and Chrysti, all sat around him. Some were on the couch, while others in various chairs. They were all looking at him expectantly. The energy in the room was warm, familiar, but also laced with curiosity.
Jalen had asked them all to gather at his apartment because he had something very important to share with each of them. Now they were all here.
He took a breath. It was time.
“First, I just want to say ... I love each and every one of you,” Jalen began, his deep voice was steady but full of emotion. “I know I tell you all the time, but I don’t think I can ever say it enough.”
There were small smiles, glances exchanged.
“You all came into my life in ways I never expected,” he continued, “but somehow, I knew ... I knew that you were meant to be here. That we were meant to be together.”
The room was silent, all eyes were locked on him as they wondered where he was going with this.
Jalen exhaled. “That being said ... I need to introduce you to someone.”
A ripple of confusion passed through the women.
Jalen turned his head slightly toward the hallway leading to his bedroom. “Come on out.”
There was the sound of heels clicking on the floor, and then Jessica Rollins emerged.
The moment she appeared, there was an immediate shift in energy. The other seven women took her in seeing her long, voluminous copper-red hair, her striking green eyes, and the way she carried herself with a mixture of elegance and hesitation. She wore a fitted deep blue dress, and her matching-colored signature Christian Louboutin heels clicked softly against the hardwood floor.
She looked very nervous.
Jalen reached out his hand, and Jessica took it, stepping fully into the room.
“This is Jessica Rollins,” Jalen said. “And like all of you, she’s carrying my child. We confirmed it yesterday.”
A stunned silence filled the room.
Jessica felt every set of eyes on her. It was a strange feeling, standing before seven other women, all connected by one man in a way that was unconventional, even insane by normal standards.
Then, Megan smiled. “Damn, Jalen. You really just couldn’t stop at seven, huh?”
That broke the tension.
Kristen chuckled, shaking her head. “I should have known there was another one.”
Sydney, ever the warm presence, was the first to truly welcome Jessica. She smiled, standing up and walking over to her. “Jessica, it’s nice to meet you,” she said genuinely. “Jalen obviously cares about you a lot.”
Jessica blinked. “You’re ... not mad?”
Megan tilted her head. “Why would we be? He didn’t cheat on anyone. We all knew what this was.”
Karla crossed her arms. “Honestly, at this point, it would have been more shocking if there wasn’t another one.”
Jessica exhaled, the tension in her shoulders easing. They were ... accepting her.
Jalen squeezed her hand before turning back to the group. His expression grew more serious.
“This is it,” he said firmly. “Fate brought me to each of you, and I know now, without a doubt, that you are the eight women I’m meant to be with. There won’t be anyone else. It’s y’all and only y’all.”
His words hung in the air, and for a moment, all the women simply looked at him.
Then ... somehow ... they believed him.
They felt it. After everything that had happened in the last nine plus months, this wasn’t just something Jalen was saying to pacify them. It was the truth.
Chrysti was the first to nod. “I believe you.”
Rachel smirked. “Yeah, but that means you better not pull a ‘surprise number nine’ on us.”
Kristen smiled. “You’re locked in now, Moss.”
One by one, each woman voiced their acceptance. Not just of Jessica, but of all of it.
Jessica, still holding Jalen’s hand, felt a warmth she hadn’t expected.
She had been terrified of this moment. She had been afraid of rejection, and of feeling like an outsider in a world that already had a rhythm and a bond. Now, however, she realized something...
She was home.
The eight women all sat together in Jalen’s living room, forming a circle. The energy was surprisingly light, considering the magnitude of what they were discussing.
Jalen, sitting in the center of the room, looked around at each of them. “So, now that we are all here,” he said, giving Jessica a small smile, “I think we should revisit how we divide our time together.”
Rachel sighed. “Yeah, because let’s be real, one Jalen and eight of us is ... a challenge.”
Heidi smiled. “Understatement of the year.”
