Lennie’s cell phone rang and he picked the call up on the second ring.

“Hey, Dad.”

“Danny! How is my son doing today?”

“I’m really pumped! The meeting with the Green Dragon is on for next Tuesday at 2 p.m. at their corporate offices. I’m telling you, I have never encountered such skepticism from a group of people, but I did what you said, and they called me back and wanted to meet with us. They have a lot of questions, but after following your advice and renting them a traditional espresso machine a couple of months ago because their steam wand has different dimensions, they tried it for a month. They told me they had completed their studies. They said that if we can redesign the bottle to work on their machines, they would be interested as a customer!”

Lennie smiled. They called the giant company Green Dragon, or even “Bux” for short. Danny had indeed done some great work in getting past all the gatekeepers and into the department responsible for products used internally to operate their stores. Lennie already knew from Josh that their steam wand was designed differently, so the existing silicone bottle design wouldn’t work. Lennie came up with the idea to simply rent a competing brand of machine. Essentially, any other brand could work because they standardized on the long, slender stainless steel tube the bottle was designed for, while their prospective client used a shorter, thicker, angled wand that was exclusive to them.

“So, Dad, you are going to lead the presentation, right?”

“Of course, I’ve done this a hundred times. Josh is going to be there too, correct?”

Danny chuckled. “He said he wouldn’t miss it for the world. What did Josh mean when he said, “I’m going to get back at those bastards. After all, the best revenge is success, isn’t it?”

Lennie chuckled at what Danny asked. He knew Josh’s story well. He left the East Coast a long time ago to take a new job with another local coffee company. They were planning to open new coffee shops, and he was going to lead them because he had success doing it back in Pennsylvania, where he was from. He opened a six-store chain and was making bank. This new opportunity offered him a position to oversee the entire operation of a well-funded company.”

“Wow, Dad, I didn’t know Josh went back that far in the industry.”

“Yeah, so he drove to Seattle, taking his time with his then-wife to take what he thought was his last vacation in a while because he knew that he may not get another one for a long time until the new concept was running and operating smoothly. Three weeks later, as they pulled into Seattle, he picked up a newspaper and found out that the Green Dragon had bought them out. When he reported to his new position, he discovered that, like most of the company, the person he had interviewed with was already cleaning his desk out to leave. It set him back a few years. He never forgot it and said that one day he would get revenge.”

“Wow, I never knew that!” Danny thought for a few seconds and said, “Will that past experience cause any problems in our meeting?”

“No, I’m sure they don’t remember it. After all, it was a generation ago. Danny, let’s get together and review my presentation. Josh can answer all the technical questions, but I will present the business case. It’s pretty cut and dried, even though we will have to spend some money redesigning the lid and inner tube for their unique machines. Josh and I have reviewed the contract, and we are confident it can happen. However, designing a new bottle will likely cost a few hundred thousand dollars and take maybe six months to complete and fully test. Why don’t you come over to my place, and we can go over it? After all, you’ve only been here once, when I first moved in.”

“Yeah, Dad, I’ve been tied down by work, but that’s no excuse. How about Saturday morning?”

“Sounds great, see you then, son.”

After hanging up, a new thought popped into Lennie’s mind. The girls! What do I tell Danny about the girls? He has only met Cindy. How do I explain that six other gorgeous women are also living here? And how do I explain what they do?

He then realized that most of them would be out of town, and only Cindy and DJ would be home. Even Olivia Gutierrez wouldn’t be there because she left on Friday afternoons and didn’t return until Monday. He could figure out how to explain the presence of one more beautiful woman. After all, Danny would only be visiting on Saturday, and even if he stayed the night, he would be gone by Sunday afternoon.

Matt was there, prompt as usual, after letting himself in by tapping the code they gave him, but they were alone.

“Lennie, where are the other girls? I haven’t seen Fiona or Maria in nearly a week. Tony is at his gym now. He called me and said he wasn’t coming over if Cindy was still away on business. Is everything okay?”

“Yes, Matt, everything is fine. The girls have been busy. They have been spending the nights with clients and, in some cases, out of town. They still do their exercises when they can, although they sometimes miss a day or two. Cindy came back last night, so the next time you talk with Tony, tell him to plan on stopping by on Monday. Don’t worry, you are still getting paid your entire fee every month.”

Getting paid was fine and appreciated, but being in their presence was the greatest perk of all. Especially Fiona, for whom he had found a special fondness. She was so damned hot and, at the same time, open about what she did to him. It bothered him a lot at first when he found out she was a world-class prostitute, selling herself to extremely rich men. Although it was her kind and caring personality that he really missed. After a few weeks, he had almost separated her from what she did in his mind. Almost. It still bothered him. She seemed so innocent, so feminine. Maybe, he thought to himself, that’s why she is so popular.

After Lennie finished and Matt left, he realized that he would have to shower alone again instead of being accompanied by one of his beauties. He didn’t want to wake Cindy, and he didn’t want to demand that DJ clean him up by being his shower partner. She would have been willing, but the allure of the thrill had faded as the girls were always busy now. Months ago, they were always around, but now he seldom saw the group together. The girls had forced it on him, and he willingly agreed, but no, forcing any of the girls to do anything, even taking a shower with him, felt wrong. Now, if any one of them offered, that was another story. He still enjoyed that a few times a week, when it was convenient.

At 11 a.m., he walked into their bedroom with freshly brewed Costa Rican coffee and a container of half-and-half on a silver platter.

“Ummm, is that fresh coffee?” the groggy female voice murmured.

“Yes, it is, baby. I made it fresh just for you.”

Lennie turned around and looked at his girlfriend. Her body was a dark shade of bronze, the result of spending nine days on a yacht, nude, in the Mediterranean with her best client, Jackson Haggarty. Her tanned body made the white t-shirt she was wearing pop like a fashion statement.

“You are so kind. Oh! Is that the time? Why didn’t you wake me? Have you worked out yet?

“Yes. I have, but don’t worry about it. You got in so late that I wanted you to sleep. After all, a woman as beautiful as you needs her shut-eye.”

She smiled at him and reached for a deep kiss. “I’m sorry for being away from you for such a long time, baby.”

She took the mug of coffee as Lennie had poured the perfect amount of creamer, offering him a loving hug and kiss before sitting down to take her first sip. “You are so good to me, sweetie. I knew I was right when I asked you out on a date many months ago.” Her eyes were still a bit sleepy, but her smile was brilliant.

“I have some great news, Cin. A few months back, I met the person who is responsible for deciding all internal operational products and services for ‘Bux. They use proprietary espresso machines that have the same cleaning issues as other machines on the market. However, they have a different design for the steam wand. We rented a standard machine for them to use to test our bottle and cleaner. Danny has been handling it all since I’m retired now.”

“So you and Danny have made inroads into the largest coffee company in the world. Impressive. You need to get a reward for that,” she said, her hand rubbing up against Lennie’s groin while the other held the mug of coffee. Lennie smiled but glanced at the mug.

“Hey, I can be ambidextrous,” she bragged.

“That happened two months ago, and yesterday, he called and said the Green Dragon is interested in our cleaning bottle and solution! Their internal testing exceeded their expectations, and they already had a preliminary proposal from him, so they were able to analyze the pricing. He called me yesterday and has an appointment with the decision-makers! They said they are interested in standardizing on it and want to talk!”

“Baby, that’s fantastic!” Cindy was honestly excited about the good news.

“Yeah, so he is coming over on Saturday so we can go over my presentation together. He has done the standard one dozen times, but we have to tailor it to the specific needs of ‘Bux. After all, I haven’t given a presentation in over a year now, even though I created it. My plan was to have them test our bottle and cleaner on a traditionally designed machine I provided and assess whether their results confirmed what we told them. The only thing left to figure out is how to adapt the bottle to fit their unique machines. Josh says it will take some time, especially for testing to ensure it works completely, but he is confident it will work. He talked with our manufacturer, and they said it would take some time for the new bottle, but it should be a piece of cake to execute.”

“Oh, baby! That’s outstanding!”

Lennie smiled back at her, melting once again in her beautiful face and those deep-blue eyes. His feelings were as intense as the first time he saw her. Perfection was something that he could never tire of. A thought crept into his head.

“You know, Cindy, if the company gets this contract, if they accept it company-wide at the price we propose, it will mean over one hundred fifty million in profit each year.”

“Oh god! Really?” A shocked look appeared on her face.

“Yeah. I was thinking that means something like $37 million a year more in my pocket. With all of our other businesses that are also growing each quarter, I’ll be making $50 million a year.”

“I’m so proud of you!”

“Yeah, well, I was thinking, maybe that’s enough for you to quit working, you know,” he said, hesitantly.

Her smile dropped, but her look remained sincere. “You know we’ve talked about this, Lennie. I know it bothers you to share us with others, but you are aware of our history. Not only I, but all of us girls have been prostitutes all our adult lives. We can’t change, and we’ve talked about it many times.”

Lennie only stared his puppy-dog look into her eyes.

“Yes, we’re prostitutes, Lennie, but honestly, how we do it, it isn’t a bad thing, not really. Consider how we help men with intimacy issues and with trust in a woman, with their outlook on how they view the world, not just how we provide sex to them. We help them, Lennie, and by doing that, we have, over the years, helped ourselves. Our long-standing and well-established relationships have helped us over the many years we girls have been working.”

Lennie said nothing and listened.

“I know you have changed things for all of us girls, Lennie, but I can’t simply drop the last twenty years of my life. There are so many important relationships, even though they are compartmentalized and only exist because we are specialty sex workers. The GFE we provide is unique. They have nowhere else to go.”

Lennie silently nodded and sighed, understanding but not liking it. I know, but I thought that you would want a normal life, that’s all.”

“It’s not just me, but all of us girls have conditioned ourselves over the years that we need sex with different men all the time. This is how we relate to people and how we display our value as individuals. I’ve never hidden the fact that I’m a prostitute from you, Lennie. Yes, it’s a defect in us, but something we don’t know how to overcome—we always need sex. All kinds of sex. It’s more than just the sex. It’s being so close to so many successful men, emotionally, I mean. It’s so deep and entrenched in us all that I don’t know how we could ever change.”

He nodded. “Yeah, I know this is the curse I signed on to. Still, think about it, okay? For me? Just entertain me.”

She nodded but said nothing. Maria walked in and heard a rumor that Lennie’s son was coming over.

“What time is Danny coming over?”

Lennie realized that was all Cindy was going to talk about on the subject.

“He is coming over on Saturday at about 11 a.m., and we are going to go over the presentation. It’s essentially the same one used for all customers, but it will be changed to their specific, unique requirements.”

Cindy remembered a new bit of news he needed to know.

“Baby, I’m home for now, but I will be gone again next Tuesday, just for the evening. Jackson has to come back to Starbucks because they want him to negotiate a deal.”

“I thought that he was just here at Starbucks before you left with him for Spain a few weeks ago?”

“Yeah, he was, but they want him back for some negotiation. I suppose the board decided that was a big deal, so he is flying back just for the day, and then he wants to see me that evening. He is flying back in the morning. It seems their people have screwed up similar negotiations in the past, and so he will be there to negotiate this deal. One of Jackson’s great strengths is that he’s a master negotiator. He didn’t mention what it was for or who it was with, but he wanted me that evening before he went back to Florida. I just wanted to let you know.”

Lennie had begrudgingly accepted the fact that his girlfriend was in transitory relationships with other men, but somehow, this Jackson guy being a regular client of Cindy bothered him more than any other.

“I wonder if Jackson’s negotiations are for your cleaning tool,” Cindy said. “It makes sense. After all, there are hundreds of millions of dollars involved.”

Lennie stared at the beautiful brunette and said, “I’ll bet you’re right. So it looks like I may finally meet this guy. My biggest problem will be keeping my personal life issues, namely you, from my business issues.”

“Oh, Lennie, don’t worry about it. Jackson may be a tough negotiator and a shrewd businessman, but he’s also trustworthy. He means what he says.”

There was a beep from the outside gate, and Lennie tapped the button to pull the massive iron gate open. A shiny new dark blue metallic BMW M850i xDrive Coupe drove through and pulled up next to Lennie’s Ford Expedition. He opened the front door and walked out.

“Danny!” He shouted as the younger, 28-year-old man got out of the car and smiled. They met and gave each other a warm hug. Danny was three inches taller than Lennie and was one of the few people Lennie had to actually look up to.

“Hi, Dad. I forgot how nice a view of Puget Sound your new place has,” he said with admiration. “It’s beautiful.”

“Thanks, son. Yeah, I got lucky to find this place. Come in, come in,” he said as he waved his hand to the front door.

They walked in and went directly from the entryway to the expansive kitchen. Sitting at the island bar was Cindy.

“Hi Danny, so good to see you again!” she said sincerely. Cindy was dressed modestly in jeans and a white sleeveless blouse that accentuated her deep, Mediterranean tan, but on her, it highlighted her tantalizing curves. Some things were impossible to hide. She stood up and, reaching around his big frame, gave him a big hug. She could not stop her large, firm breasts from smashing into his chest. There was simply no place for them to go in the embrace but his lower chest.

“I still don’t get it, Cindy, how my dad found someone like you,” he queried, a bit of confusion on his face.

“You have that wrong, Danny. I was the lucky one to find him,” she answered sincerely. Taking charge of the conversation, she asked a question quickly.

“Your dad told me about your success getting that meeting with ‘Bux. That’s quite a win!” she said with admiration in her voice.

“It’s a meeting, and now the hard work begins. I can’t wait to get going, Dad.”

“Let’s go downstairs to the office.” It was the only office in the house, and usually, DJ was in it, but as planned, she had left the house for a few hours. She had all of her calls transferred to her cell, so she was still working and taking calls, although, at that time of day, it was usually slow.

As the two walked into the office, Danny noticed a picture on the large desk of seven beautiful women, of whom one was Cindy. He couldn’t help commenting.

“Damn, Dad! Look at those beauties! How does Cindy know all of these beautiful women? That Latina is gorgeous! And look at that redhead! She looks like she came off the boat from Ireland! And those three blondes, damn.”

Danny stared again at the picture. “Wait a second! This picture was taken from your top deck beside the hot tub! That means all of these incredible-looking women were here! What’s the story?”

Lennie forgot about DJ’s framed photograph of the entire stable of women, her included. Lennie had his housekeeper and new personal chef, Olivia, take it a few days after the girls had first moved in, and DJ loved it so much she had it framed. DJ had it blown up to a large 9 x 12” size and looked at it every day when doing her job.

“Umm, Cindy had all of her friends over when she moved in to show them the place,” Lennie fibbed. This isn’t going to work. Somehow, I have to come clean with Danny about the situation around here, but how exactly? he thought to himself.

“Wow, Dad, I know Cindy is incredibly beautiful, but damn, so are these other women as well,” Danny opined. “Do you know them all?” The question was mixed with curiosity and admiration.

“Yes, I do, but enough about the picture and these girls. We have to get to work. If we were somehow able to land this contract under our terms, you, my son, would never have to worry about money again,” he said, authority in his voice. After all, a father will be a father, thinking about the welfare of his child until the day he dies.

Lennie pulled out the PowerPoint presentation and the demonstration video he had used in the past for the initial larger companies he had landed when the company’s success had begun. He had done some more work to tailor the proposal to specific client needs, as well as consider their company’s needs, with ‘Bux’s giant market size as well as some rumblings Lennie had heard over the years when the huge company dealt with much smaller companies with pockets that weren’t deep.

Rumors circulated that they would whipsaw the small company into overcommitting resources to meet a contract and then delay delivery and payment, causing the company to run out of funds and even go bankrupt. ‘Bux would then step in, buy the failing company with the product they needed, and own it, essentially cutting their future costs of operation. It also dashed the owners’ dreams of prosperity, who had to sell to escape the contractual burden they had gotten themselves into by not weighing the terms of their agreement. The “big buyout” paid off existing debt, but there wasn’t much for a hefty payout.

“Danny, I will be controlling all of the negotiations from our end. There will be some non-negotiable terms from our end to protect the company, which I will definitely not budge on. These mostly concern the redesign of the product to fit their unique machines. It could cost a million in the worst case and take up to six months to properly test. The production costs will also be astronomical. It could be over twenty million for the entire run, including molds and production design expenses,” Lennie said.

“Yeah, Josh said it could take some time to get it right,” Danny remembered.

“Josh also said our cleaner supplier had to create a custom blend for their non-stainless steel steam wands. It’s some kind of specialty plastic. The supplier has to make a special run, and they have a lot of upfront costs they won’t absorb.”

“Exactly, son. We will have to commit to funding the entire first year of the cleaner, and that will cost us many millions as well. ‘Bux will be required to pay upfront for our hard costs. We don’t get profits until we ship, but we aren’t going into the hole for their unique requirements. It could bankrupt us if, for some reason, they were to delay payment after we paid for all of those costs. If they disagree, we will walk away. Do you understand?”

Danny knew that tone of voice from his dad. Walk away from the contract of a lifetime? Was his dad kidding? He thought. Danny gulped. He knew by that tone his dad wasn’t kidding.

“They wouldn’t do that to a small company that is trying to help them out, would they?”

Lennie looked at him as if his adult son had just insisted on that. Yes, there was a Santa Claus. And eight reindeer. With gifts for all. Ahh, the innocence of youth, he thought.

“And you’ll see Josh on Monday morning, so tell him about those non-negotiable terms, too. We’ve talked about them previously, but we are the negotiators, and he is the inventor. He may want to sidestep some details, but don’t let him take charge.”

They continued to work on the details until both were certain everything was understood and reported flawlessly. Lennie finished their conversation by drafting a formal proposal that included payment terms, delivery dates, and other critical details.

Danny left early that evening, but not until he got another one of those fantastic, tit-crushing hugs from Cindy. And because he was still in the prime of his life and not a few years away from being a septuagenarian, he walked away with a massively hard dick. After the door closed behind him, Cindy broke out in a cackle.

“Lennie, I think that Danny has a bigger dick than you do,” she grinned.

Lennie stared at her, saying, “How did you ever come up with that?” and then realized she had hugged him tightly and longingly like she had done with Lennie hundreds of times.

“Oh.”

Saturday was quiet around the house. All the girls had dates again, and only DJ was around, like usual. She would spend some time at her computer, but if there were no calls, she would come up and keep Lennie company. She felt better doing that instead of being alone in her office.

Lennie, however, started to feel off. Physically, something was not right. A virus struck him hard and spread quickly. By late Saturday night, he was sweating profusely, his head began clogging up, and a persistent cough started. When he went to bed, he instructed DJ that if any of the girls came home, they were to leave him alone and sleep somewhere else. By morning, he was running a fever, sweating, and ravaged his body. He tried to get something to drink and got some hot tea with lemon, but he couldn’t hold down any food. Cindy and Lori had slept somewhere else last night. Around noon, Cindy showed up with a thermometer and more tea.

“One hundred and two point seven. You, my boyfriend, are officially down for the count.”

Lennie asked her to get the small bottle of echinacea flower concentrate from the bathroom cabinet and some orange juice. He had luck in the past using the herbal remedy to minimize colds, as it kicked his immune system into high gear to fight similar viruses. However, it was ineffective against a virus that spread so quickly and had such a mean kick. He kept drinking fluids after taking four doses of it during the afternoon, and his fever kept rising as he shivered under the blankets. With the echinacea flower concentrate, his body was fighting the virus the best it could. There was little that could be done.

By Monday, his fever still remained almost 103 degrees. He felt miserable. All he could do was keep wrapped up and drink water and juices. He had zero appetite. He could only get out of bed long enough to go to the bathroom and pee. His head hurt every time he took a step. What was certain was that he was not going to be a part of the presentation for ‘Bux.

In the early afternoon, he made another trip to the bathroom. He took a quick shower to attempt to feel human, but it didn’t do much more than make him feel cleaner. When he returned to the bed, he noticed the bedding had been changed, and Olivia Gutierrez was finishing up putting on the last fresh pillowcase.

“Mister Lennie! I heard about your illness this morning when I arrived at work! Oh my, you don’t look so good. I changed your sheets, and at least you have a clean bed now. I am making chicken soup for you, and I will bring a bowl in when it is ready.”

Right then, chicken soup sounded good to Lennie. “Thanks, Olivia. There are a few cans of it in the pantry.”

“Oh no, Mister Lennie! No canned soup for you! This is my mother’s recipe. I make it by hand,” she proudly said in her Mexican accent.

“First, I bake the chicken for an hour in the oven, then cut it into pieces and put them aside. Then, I put the carcass in a big pot of water with carrots, celery, onions, garlic, and just a bit of salt and pepper, and let it simmer for four hours. I then pour it into another big pot and use cheesecloth to catch all the bones and remnants, leaving only the broth, with all that good bone liquid captured. Then, more vegetables, and I add back the cooked chicken, hand-shredded and not cut with a knife, of course. It is simmering as we speak, and I will have a bowl for you in about twenty minutes, okay, Mister Lennie?”

“Thank you, Olivia. That sounds amazing.”

She beamed at his words. She knew the other girls provided him with sex and entertainment, and she could not. But real chicken soup when he was sick? It was something she could do that nobody else could do, and she was proud. Her life now centered around the activities of Lennie’s home, and she was committed to doing her part to make everything as good as it could be. When she served it in bed to Lennie, she stayed at his side until he tried it.

“Oh, Olivia, this soup is amazing. Thank you so much!”

At that moment, Olivia felt on top of the world, able to give back something unique to the man who had helped her find a new life, financial stability, and a new career in America for her and her young daughter.

When Danny called to confirm their appointment the next day, he found out the bad news.

“But Dad, this will be the biggest deal in the company’s history! I’m unsure if I can succeed without you. Maybe you can get a shot or something from the doctor?”

“No, son, it’s a virus, not an infection. Antibiotics not only do not work, but they can also be harmful when taken for the wrong reasons. Nope, liquids and sleep are all I can do. You are going to do this, Danny. You’ve given dozens of presentations and have nailed it every time. If they try to throw you off guard with questions, just focus on what you know is correct. The only significant difference is the size of the deal, so ensure our company doesn’t go into debt to build their custom bottle or commit to the large amount of special cleaner they will need. Make them pay all their hard costs upfront, and it will all be fine.”

“How do I do that?”

“What is the cost we calculated on Saturday?” Danny looked at his notes.

“The bottle redesign and testing is about three million, but the main cost is in the cleaner. If they want to use our product company-wide, it will cost us about 42 million to supply all 70,000 machines. Plus, the hard costs for the first run are ten million. As you see, we don’t have the money to finance that, even for a few months.”

“So what do we do?” Danny was getting nervous.

“Simple, we have them pay for it with a down payment in the contract to cover all expenses upfront. It’s more than a quarter of the entire contract. That would be about 55 million, the rest in payment net 30 days for each invoice, as the stores are supplied and it is shipped.”

Lennie was straining to talk, even though he understood the importance of the discussion. The giant profits were the carrot dangling in front of them, but the stick was the terms, and if mishandled, it could squash them like bugs. Lennie’s memories flashed back to a few years ago, when he was driving for Uber to pay his bills. No, there was no going back.
