Zander was seated in pretty much the same place he’d been for the last several days, barring trips to the bathroom or kitchen: seated in front of his computer, whiling away his time on League of Legends, his bedroom door closed. He had pretty much spent every waking hour of the last month in this very spot, except for when he was at school, getting food or relieving himself.

Ever since Jennifer, he’d had no interest in anything beyond his computer screen.

Perhaps it had been his fault for letting himself fall for her charms in the first place. Maybe he’d deluded himself into thinking she’d actually cared about him. Maybe he’d been blind to the kind of person she actually was. Maybe ... maybe...

When he’d first started dating her, some time last October, he’d been sure she was perfect. That charming little brunette who had pushed all his right buttons, had said all the right things to make him feel like a king, who was never shy with her PDAs around him; giving her his virginity right after the Winter Formal had made perfect sense at the time. And every time they’d slept together after had been just as phenomenal; she was a tigress in the sheets. He’d been absolutely sure she was the one for him.

So when they’d gone to that party at the home of “some guy” she knew, and she’d disappeared for long enough to make him curious enough to go looking for her—

—and he’d found her in one of the bedrooms, with “some guy’s” dick halfway down her throat—

Well, life just seemed to unravel after that. Their blowout had been epic, and had drawn quite a crowd. Whether she had actually meant the things she had said about him during their breakup fight—like about her faking it with him every time, or wanting to gag when he’d kissed her—or if she’d just been angry in the moment and had been exaggerating to be purposely harsh, he didn’t know. Ultimately, it didn’t matter.

What did matter was that it had utterly sapped his will to do anything but sit here and play games and occasionally get his very lonely rocks off with internet porn. He didn’t have anyone to unload on; he had some friends at school, but none who had anything helpful to say to him other than “Sorry bro,” or “Don’t worry, there’s other chicks out there.” If more of them were like Jennifer, that was kind of what he was afraid of.

And it wasn’t like he could turn to anyone in his family, either. His parents were barely around anymore, much less in the same room. And his sisters? Don’t be silly. Yes, the family was in each other’s orbit enough to hear that his girlfriend had cheated on him, and yes, they’d offered him the obligatory platitudes that did nothing to help, but that was about it. That humiliating encounter with Bobbi in the bathroom yesterday had probably been the longest interaction he’d had with one of his sisters in the past month.

Okay, granted that was partly because he kept a closed door between him and them, but...

Knock knock.

Speaking of his door, who could that have been knocking at it? He paused his game and swiveled his chair around, craning his head curiously as if it would allow him to somehow see around his closed door. Rather than getting up, he just said, “Yeah?”

“Zander?” a female voice said. “Can I come in?”

Raven?

He’d almost forgotten about their houseguest. She’d been quite the social butterfly in the few weeks she’d been staying with them, doing all she could to interact with Paula and Bobbi, and his mom and dad whenever they came home. And of course, now that Marcus was home for Spring Break, she was supposed to be spending time with him. But Zander had remained reclusive as ever, and had barely exchanged more than a few sentences with his brother’s girlfriend out of courtesy.

Was she looking to rectify that now? Just because that was what she did?

“Uh ... okay,” Zander said slowly.

The door opened, and the exotic hottie that his puffed-up brother had somehow snagged came cautiously stepping inside. At that moment, Zander thought that he really had been spending too much time holed up in his room, if it still took him by surprise every time he noticed just how boner-inspiring Raven was, despite her having spent the last two weeks living in their house. She gently shut the door and strode over to his bed, sitting down and leaning forward to meet his eyes.

“I’ve been a little worried about you, Zander,” she said in the tenderest voice.

“Me? Why?” Why should his brother’s girlfriend be thinking about him at all?

“I’ve gotten only a cliff notes version of what happened with you and your girlfriend,” she said, “but it looks like it was pretty bad, and I don’t think the way you’re handling it is very healthy. I’ve barely seen you since I’ve been here. In fact, nobody in your family has.”

Zander snorted softly. “Well that’s hardly a change.”

Suddenly she laid a hand on his. Zander stared down at it, wondering where in the world that was coming from. But as he looked up into her gentle expression, he couldn’t deny that her hand on his felt good. In fact, he started to realize her presence was making him more relaxed than he’d been in a month.

“Why don’t you talk to me about it?” she said softly. “Tell me about what really happened with this girl. Just let me be a friendly ear.”

Zander blinked, not sure if he should believe this. He’d just been thinking about how he had no one to confide in, and as if from nowhere, this utterly drool-worthy girl that his brother totally didn’t deserve was offering to let him do just that. Should he maybe start believing in prayer after all?

And suddenly, he was unloading. He told Raven everything, all about how he’d gotten together with her, about his first time with her, about how often they’d done it together and how affectionate she’d been with him, and every detail about how it had all come crashing down. Her face showed exactly the kind of outrage he would hope for when he got to the part about catching Jennifer in that bedroom, and took on the most endearing look of sympathy when he described the soul-crushing things she’d said during their breakup fight. She laid a comforting hand on his arm and rubbed gently, and Zander let his head droop sorrowfully.

“I’m so sorry she hurt you like that, Zander,” she said. “A good guy like you doesn’t deserve that kind of shit.”

Zander raised an eyebrow, partially at the unexpected curse word that contrasted her gentle and nurturing tone. “How do you know I’m a good guy?” he said.

She responded with a “Don’t be dense” kind of look. “Because I’m good with people, that’s how, dummy.”

“But this has gotta be the first time we’ve said any more to each other than ‘Are you done in the bathroom?’.”

Raven let out a small breath of a laugh and a roll of her eyes. “Look, I understand why you feel like you need to shut the world out. You trusted someone with your heart who didn’t deserve it, and she let you down. It’s hard to face the world or trust anyone after something like that.” Then she leaned closer, as if she were about to impart a great secret. “But you’re never going to heal if you keep hiding. And there are other girls out there who you can trust.”

Zander gave a cynical sigh, and swiveled his chair away from her. “Let me know if you see any of ‘em around.”

For a moment, there was silence.

Then he felt hot breath on his ear.

Zander stiffened. Goosebumps broke out along his skin. And in a smoky whisper, Raven said, “I may have seen a few. And they might be closer than you think.”

Very carefully, Zander turned his head around. He met Raven’s eyes. She was close enough for him to count her eyelashes. And that look she was giving him ... if he didn’t know better, he would swear...

And then suddenly she was standing up straight, removing herself from his personal space. She gave him an enigmatic smile, and then turned and began striding back for the door, putting an alluring sway into her hips that he had only ever seen done by a girl who was trying to seduce someone.

When she reached the door she paused with her hand on the knob, and looked back over her shoulder. “You should try coming out of here for dinner at least,” she said, reverting to her completely innocent and soothing tone from moments before. “It’d be a first step.” And then she left.

Zander just sat there, his mind reeling. What the fuck had just happened?

Raven suppressed a smile as she emerged from Zander’s room and shut the door behind her. That ought to give the boy some serious things to think about for a while.

She planned to take things slow with him; it wouldn’t do to just come out and jump his bones right away. That might scare him off. She needed to warm him up to the idea of accepting her advances before she made a move.

It probably wouldn’t take that long, she figured. He was a teenage boy, after all.

“Raven?”

She turned to see Bobbi standing in the hall, looking at her curiously. “Hi Bobbi,” Raven said, innocent as can be.

Bobbi looked toward the door Raven had just emerged from. “That’s Zander’s room!”

“Yes, it is.”

“What were you doing in Zander’s room?”

“Just doing my part to try to get him out of his shell,” Raven shrugged. “You’re worried about him too, aren’t you?”

“ ... No...” Bobbi said very hesitantly, in a tone that would fool no one.

“Of course you are,” Raven grinned, reaching out a hand and rubbing Bobbi’s arm. “You even told him that yesterday, when—”

She stopped, making it seem like she’d caught herself about to accidentally let something slip. In reality, there was nothing accidental about what she’d come close to saying at all.

“When what?” Bobbi predictably said, visibly on edge.

Raven made a show of feigned embarrassment. “Well ... I didn’t want to embarrass you, but I saw that little encounter between you and him yesterday. You know ... in the bathroom?”

Bobbi immediately turned about 12 shades of red.

“I was peeking out of Marcus’s bedroom, and I saw you open the door on him,” Raven admitted. “And ... I heard what you said to him about moving on. So I know you agree.”

“Um ... yeah ... he needs to...” Bobbi stammered, trying without much success to focus her attention on that aspect of her encounter with Zander yesterday.

The way she was struggling seemed to confirm Raven’s suspicions. Something told her that of all the members of the Greenfield family, little Bobbi was going to be the easiest nut for her to crack. Carefully, she moved a step closer, looking down at Bobbi with smoky eyes. “So,” she said in her best silken purr, “did you like what you saw?”

Bobbi blinked several times. “W-w-what?”

“When you opened that door, and you saw Zander with his cock in his hand. When you got a good, clear look at what he’s packing down there. Did you like it?”

Bobbi didn’t answer. She just stared at Raven in bewilderment, as if she were some kind of bizarre creature that had climbed off the page of a fantasy book.

Raven took another step into Bobbi’s personal space. “Bobbi, I’ve noticed you have a bit of a voyeuristic streak in you.”

“A voy ... what?”

“You like to watch, is what I mean. Like you watched me and Marcus yesterday.”

If it was possible, Bobbi turned even redder, and started to shrink back, putting a bashful hand up over her lips.

Raven laughed reassuringly. “You don’t have to be embarrassed about it, Bobbi. It’s okay to be curious, especially at your age. And you know, I kind of liked knowing you were watching us. It made things a lot hotter.”

Bobbi was clearly at a loss for what to say. She was staring up at Raven, hardly blinking.

Raven reached out a hand to grasp Bobbi’s shoulder and moved closer to the blushing teen’s ear. “So did you like what you saw when you opened the door on Zander?”

She could hear Bobbi struggling for breath. Her mouth moved a few times before any sound came out. “N ... n-n-n...”

“Don’t force yourself to say no just because you think you should.”

Bobbi stopped making sounds altogether at that. If she wasn’t going to say no, there was only one other answer she could give, and clearly she was not prepared to say it.

Raven chuckled softly, and retreated out of Bobbi’s orbit, though keeping a hand on her shoulder. “It’s okay,” she said. “You don’t have to openly admit it if you’re not ready to. I just want you to know there’s nothing wrong with it if you did. Especially right now, when he’s all alone like that.”

Now Bobbi was giving her a very weirded-out look. She’d let the girl stew over that one for a while.

“Well,” Raven said, “I think I’ll go see what your sister’s up to.” She felt Bobbi watching as she strode past the stunned and speechless girl, and knocked on the door to Paula’s room.

Paula and Heather were lying on Paula’s bed doing their normal pointless shit, checking social media on their phones, gossiping about their friends and teachers at school, making stupid small talk, when the knock came. They exchanged a perplexed look, and Paula lifted her head. “Come in?” she said.

The door opened and Raven strode in, smiling at them and looking every bit eager to just be one of the gals as she strode over and sat down on the bed with them. “Hey girls,” she said. “Whatcha up to?”

“Uh, nothing,” Paula said, laying back down on her pillows and glancing over at Heather, who just shrugged.

“Any juicy gossip in the works?” Raven probed with an eager, shark-like grin.

They both furrowed their brows at her. “Raven, you don’t know anybody at our school,” Heather said. “What difference would the gossip make to you?”

“Just because I don’t know the people you’re talking about doesn’t mean I’m not interested,” Raven shrugged. “Especially this boy you’re both looking to get freaky with. What was his name? Lance?”

Ah-hah, Paula thought. Now Raven’s explanation made sense. She wanted to continue the conversation they started yesterday about Lance. And probably offer more helpful platitudes about being careful and saving yourself for the one and all that.

“Well,” Heather began, “he’s really cute, for starters. Smiles a lot, makes friends with everyone. He’s on the yearbook staff, takes a lot of pictures. Sometimes pretty sneaky about it.”

“Yeah, it’s like ‘Surprise! Smile!’ And he’s snapping away,” Paula put in.

“Sounds kind of annoying, actually,” Raven said.

“Not really,” Heather shrugged. “He’s actually pretty charming about it. Dishing out compliments, you know? Telling us how good we look in that jacket or something.”

“And he’s fun at parties, too,” Paula added. “He’ll talk to everyone, offer them a beer, ask questions about their lives.”

“Yeah, everyone likes him,” Heather said.

“Well if he’s such a charmer, then why hasn’t some other girl scooped him up by now?” Raven asked. “Sounds to me like you’d better hurry if you want something to happen, or someone else will get to him first!”

Paula tilted her head and regarded Raven. This was different than the urge to caution that she had given them yesterday. Now it sounded like she was telling them to throw caution to the wind and just have their way with him ASAP.

“Oh, we’re sort of staking a claim,” Heather said, not seeming fazed by the apparent change in Raven’s attitude toward him. “We’ve been hanging around him at parties, and in the lunchroom. We kind of sit on either side of him on the bench, you know? We’re like a walking ‘keep out’ sign to the other girls.”

Raven chuckled. “Well, that sounds like a good idea. So have either of you kissed him yet?”

SCREEECH!!!

It was like tires squealing to a stop in Paula’s head. “Uh, no...” she admitted.

“Not yet,” Heather agreed.

“You think you’re ready to?”

“Of course!” Paula said a little too quickly. If she was about to start lecturing them about waiting and being careful again...

“Do you have a lot of experience kissing?”

Paula wasn’t sure what she’d been expecting Raven to say, but it probably wasn’t that. “Well, yeah ... some...” she said. It wasn’t a lie, exactly. She’d been on dates before, sure, and she’d kissed boys, naturally. Of course, the kisses hadn’t been very good. Those boys had no idea what to do with their tongues, a couple drooled a little (actually, that one might have been her), and one of them had just eaten a chili dog with onions. Justin had been kind of okay at kissing, but that was before Paula realized he was also a colossal tool.
