Mikaela grinned confidently, her long chrome pink nails glinting under the stadium lights as she tossed her Poké Ball high into the air.

“Bella! Come on out, baby girl!” She shouted as she tossed the ball.

Dan Stevens made the call. “And here we go! Mikaela Faye makes her first move, and she’s leading with—”

“Vreeee-pbbbb!”

A stunningly well-groomed Azumarill landed gracefully, shaking her round ears before flashing a confident smirk. Bella twirled on the spot, striking a playful pose, her polished, perfectly shiny coat reflecting the lights of the stadium.

Wallace leaned forward gleefully. “Azumarill! Mikaela’s trusted powerhouse, Bella! A perfect start for her tactical style!”

The crowd erupted seeing the first Pokémon set to do battle. Ace could hear comments coming from the crowd.

“Oh damn, Bella looks clean today!”

“Of course she does! Mikaela treats her team like movie star celebrities!”

“Azumarill’s no joke! Huge bulk and offense? Ace better have a plan!”

Ace then smiled, himself. “Let’s do this, Blade!” he yelled as he tossed his ball.

He threw the ball with precision. It opened mid-flight, releasing a dark crimson flash as his Scizor materialized onto the field.

“Szzzr-shhh-clnk!”

Blade’s sleek, metallic red body gleamed under the stadium lights. His razor-sharp pincers clanked together as he stared down Bella with unwavering focus.

The golden accents on his exoskeleton shimmered, and his eyes burned with intensity. More comments came from the crowd.

“Oh shit, Ace brought a Scizor?!”

“That thing looks mean! Look at how sharp those pincers are!”

“Yo ... this might actually be a crazy matchup!”

Ace cracked his neck, rolling his shoulders. “Don’t get comfortable, Mikaela. You’re gonna have to work for this one.”

Mikaela licked her lips, amused. “Oh honey, I never get comfortable. Breaking spirits is part of the fun.”

The referee raised his hands. “Begin!”

Mikaela smiled harder. “Bella, Aqua Jet! Let’s show him why you’re the fastest in the water!”

Bella let out a fierce cry. Water surged around her body as she blasted forward like a missile, aiming straight for Blade, but Ace was already ready.

“Blade, Bullet Punch!”

Blade moved in a blink, faster than anyone expected. His metallic claw glowed silver, charged with immense force.

Clang!Clang!Clang!

Blade’s Bullet Punch connected, hitting Bella cleanly several times before she could even finish the fast Aqua Jet. The metallic pincers cracked against Bella’s chest with a sound like a steel hammer on stone. The shockwave rattled the arena floor, and the crowd gasped in shock.

“Wait! He was faster?!”

“No freaking way! Aqua Jet is a super-fast move! How did Scizor land the hit first?!”

“It’s that Technician ability! Bullet Punch just hit like a damn truck!”

Azumarill was sent flying backward, smashing into the ground hard.

Dan threw his hands up in excitement. “Oh, my Arceus! Scizor just blasted Azumarill with a Bullet Punch to the face!”

Wallace turned to Dan before quickly turning back to the match. “He knew Mikaela would go for Aqua Jet and beat her to the punch literally!”

The camera zoomed in on Mikaela. For the first time, she looked surprised. She bit her lip, her fingers tapping on her arm.

Ace smiled. “You were saying something about breaking me?”

Mikaela’s eyes narrowed. Azumarill staggered up, but she was wobbling. That hit had taken a toll. Ace didn’t let up.

“Blade, finish this! Bullet Punch, again!”

“Szzzr-clnk!” The Scizor blurred like red lightning, closing the distance and delivering another devastating series of steel punches right to the Azumarill’s gut.

“Preeee-lup!” Bella let out a pained cry and collapsed in a heap.

The referee raised his left arm. “Azumarill is unable to battle! Scizor wins!!”

The entire stadium was stunned.

“And just like that, Mikaela loses her first Pokémon! Ace Tomlinson takes round one!” Dan yelled into his microphone.

“That’s not just a Bullet Punch, Dan, that’s a statement! Ace Tomlinson didn’t come here to survive. He came here to win!” Wallace added excitedly.

The camera cut to Mikaela. She stared at Bella’s fainted body, then exhaled sharply, smirking slightly.

“ ... Huh.”

She returned Bella to her Poké Ball, holding it for a moment. Then she looked up straight at Ace.

“Okay, Ace. I see you. Maybe I did underestimate you a little.” She licked her lips, a dangerous glint in her eyes. “But you just made the worst mistake possible.”

Ace didn’t flinch. “Oh yeah? And why’s that?”

Mikaela smiled fully now. “You got me excited.”

Wallace’s eyebrows raised. “Ace needs to be careful here, Dan. Mikaela only smiles like that when she smells blood. This fight’s about to change gears.”

“Now I’m really coming for you, Ace.” Mikaela grabbed her second Poké Ball. “Alright, baby, it’s time to take to the skies!”

With a smooth toss, she released her second Pokémon, a radiant Togekiss named Sky. The Togekiss burst out of the Poké Ball in a swirl of shimmering fairy dust, gracefully flapping her wings as she took to the air.

“Priiiiiii-yaaa!”

Her feathers glowed under the stadium lights, and her presence was elegant yet imposing. She let out a series of high-pitched, melodic chirps and trills upon manifesting.

Mikaela ran a hand through her hair, her smile widening. “Alright, Ace. Let’s see if you’re really as good as you think you are.”

Ace eyed the Togekiss carefully. He knew Blade had the type advantage, but something felt off. Mikaela wouldn’t have sent out Sky if she didn’t have a plan.

“Blade, return!” Ace called before pulling out another Poké Ball. “Arthur, you’re up!”

A powerful, armored Corviknight materialized, his black and silver feathers gleaming under the lights. He flapped his massive wings, letting out a deep, metallic, fear-inducing, bird-like caw before locking eyes with Togekiss.

Mikaela grinned. “You just played right into my hands. Sky, Thunder Wave!”

A pulse of bluish electric energy surged from Sky, crackling across the battlefield and striking Arthur. The Corviknight flinched, and his body tensed up.

Dan sat up straighter. “Uh oh! Corviknight is paralyzed!!”

Wallace nodded. “That’s a big problem! Corviknight relies on defense and mobility, and now that’s completely compromised!”

Mikaela didn’t waste a second. “Now, Sky! Aura Sphere!”

“Prreeee-yaaa!” Sky generated a swirling orb of concentrated energy and fired it straight at Arthur.

BOOM! It was a direct hit. Arthur barely stayed in the air, but he was already struggling. The paralysis was making it impossible to counter effectively. The crowd reacted.

“Oh, he’s screwed.”

“Mikaela just flipped the entire battle in one move.”

Mikaela tilted her head looking directly at Ace. “Sweetheart, you should’ve kept Blade in. Now? You’re mine.”

Ace gritted his teeth. He needed his Corviknight to maneuver effectively, but paralysis was severely limiting his mobility and the odds weren’t in his favor.

“Sky, Aura Sphere again!” Mikaela called.

“Arthur, get out of the way and use Steel Wing!” Ace countered.

Sky quickly launched another bright orb at Arthur, but the Corviknight suddenly snapped to attention and dove, avoiding the Aura Sphere. Then his wings glowed a bright white color and he launched himself towards Sky.

WHAM! “Prreeee!”

Sky was struck directly by Arthur’s left wing sending her flying across the arena, feathers littering the air from the impact. Before she hit the ground, however, Sky was able to recover and regain her flight.

“Sky, Air Slash! Let’s finish this!” Mikaela shouted.

“Arthur! Steel Wing again!” Ace countered.

SLASH! A razor-sharp blade of wind cut through the air, striking the Corviknight with full force. Arthur hadn’t been fast enough to counter. He was forced back but maintained its flight for now.

“Arthur, Iron Defense!” Ace yelled.

The Corviknight’s entire body glowed brightly for a second before revealing a bright clean shiny metallic armor covering him.

Wallace nodded acknowledging the move. “Interesting strategy here from Ace! He’s trying to render any normal or flying type moves all but useless with the increased defense armor that Iron Defense provides. Let’s see if it pays off!”

“Aura Sphere, Sky!” Mikaela bellowed.

“Arthur, watch out and counter with Steel Wing!” Ace responded.

Arthur attempted to launch toward Sky, but he flinched and shuddered staying in place. The paralysis had fully taken hold again. Sky generated a swirling orb and fired it at Arthur.

Boom! The attack connected and exploded on Arthur launching him backward and sending him crashing onto the battlefield floor where he lay still.

The referee raised his arm in the direction of Mikaela. “Corviknight is unable to battle! Togekiss wins!”

Dan turned to Wallace. “And just like that, Mikaela evens the score! What a turnaround!”

Wallace kept his eyes on the battlefield. “That was clinical. Mikaela saw an opening and took full advantage of it. Ace played too cautiously, and it cost him.”

The crowd erupted.

Mikaela flipped her hair, blowing a kiss to the camera. “Now we’re having fun.”

Ace silently recalled Arthur, taking a breath. He still had plenty of fight left, but Mikaela just reminded him why she was one of the best.

“Alright ... I see what you’re about now.”

Mikaela smiled wickedly. “Oh honey, we’re just getting started.”

Ace took a deep breath composing himself. Mikaela was good. He’d expected that, but Ace was here for a reason, and it wasn’t because he was a novice. He called out his next Pokémon.

“Ariel, let’s go!”

“Awaaaa-oooo-vrrr!”

Ace’s Milotic elegantly appeared on the battlefield letting out a melodious and serene cry as she uncoiled her long scaly body.

“Oh! Ace is bringing out Milotic! That’s a solid choice!” Dan exclaimed.

Wallace nodded in agreement. “You know I love Milotic, such elegance and grace, but Mikaela still has control of the pace, and Sky is still fresh. Ace needs a way to turn this around fast.”

50547-25-ch-25-07-milotic.jpg

Mikaela didn’t waste time. “Sky, Shock Wave!”

“Prreeee!” CRACKLE—CRACKLE—CRACKLE!

The Shock Wave tore across the field, slamming into Milotic’s scales. The water serpent cried out, her elegant form convulsing as electricity danced along her body before fading into the ground. The crowd roared at the sheer impact.

“What a start from Mikaela! Sky just landed a clean Shock Wave, and Milotic’s already struggling!” Dan shouted into his microphone.

Wallace remained calmer. “That’s the danger of Sky, Dan. Togekiss may not look intimidating, but under Mikaela’s command she can punish Water-types since she made sure to teach her an electric attack. Ace has to stabilize the tempo right now, or this could snowball fast.”

Ace’s jaw tightened, but his eyes stayed sharp. “Ariel, Recover!”

“Mwaaaa-shhh-lrr!” Milotic glowed with a soft, radiant light, her body shimmering as her scales knit and burns faded. The crowd gasped as the wounds from Shock Wave began to vanish before their eyes.

Mikaela’s lips curved upward. “Cute trick. Sky, Air Slash!”

Togekiss flapped her wings and whipped up a blade of compressed air that shot toward Milotic. The strike slammed into her side, forcing her to coil defensively.

Ace shouted over the noise. “Now, Ice Beam!”

Milotic snapped her head up, eyes flashing as a beam of crystalline frost erupted from her mouth. The dazzling strike shot across the battlefield, catching Sky’s left wing.
