Munjan felt the pressure as he stepped off the teleport circle with Melin. The human, nearly Munjan’s own age, looked nervous. The pair crossed the teleport hub to reach another circle. Already, Munjan’s cockatrices, led by Vina, were engaging with the enemy. He had split his monster girls up to defend all three dungeons, putting one of his companions in charge of each.
Vina was a wild fighter. His maenad, a thunder monster girl, fought like a berserker.
“What’s the status,” Munjan asked Fara.
“There are eleven monster girls and one builder in the entrance room,” Fara answered.
“My thanks,” Munjan answered and nodded to Melin.
“Asud Gu!” Melin shouted, his voice cracking.
The light engulfed the two men, teleporting them from the hub to the entrance of Leo’s dungeon. The stairs leading up to the fight lay before him. He raced up as the first of his monster girls, a cockatrice named Mellekneva, died.
He felt her death. A wave of pride shot through him. She had fought well.
He exploded out into the entrance hall, a cave where his monster girls fought with hellhounds. Vina was in the midst of them. His maenad’s wild, black hair flew around her. She shrieked, her screams striking the monster girl she fought, making her flinch.
The other monster girl had bronze skin and flaming hair. She wielded fiery weapons that she slashed at Vina. The maenad dodged the attacks, trying to rip into the enemy monster girl with the claws on her fingers while her shrieks sent more pain into the enemy.
Across the cave, Munjan’s green-scaled cockatrices battled with the slender, black-skinned hellhounds. Rents of glowing red covered the enemy monster girls’ bodies as they leaped and wrestled. Shouts echoed through the room.
“A gout of flame, let the breath of Lord Gibil burn!”
At the far end of the cave, a pale-skinned and black-haired dungeon builder sent out a wave of fire. it swept over two of Munjan’s cockatrices, killing Mondata and Kikotesi. They vanished into motes, the hellhounds they fought charging deeper into the fray.
“Hammer concusses, let the might of Lord Ishkur deafen!” roared Munjan, his first spell cast in anger.
The Thunder Hammer slammed into one of those hellhounds and caved her head in. She hit the ground, lifeless.
“Sum Gidim!” Melin cried as he stepped up beside Munjan.
A scythe of spectral energy flashed out and killed the second hellhound leaping through the air. It passed through her body, not cutting her in half, just making her go limp before she vanished into sparkles, killed.
“Sum Gidim!” the mage chanted, his voice cracking, but his magic strong.
Another hellhound died.
“Whip and crack, let the lash of Lord Gibil strike!” the enemy dungeon builder shouted.
A Lash of Flame struck Munjan. Static Aura burst before the dungeon builder, protecting him from the attack. Munjan’s heart raced as he focused on the enemy. The words to the spell appeared in his mind.
Lightning Spear.
“Spark of lightning, crackle of electricity, let the wrath of Lord Enlil explode!” roared Munjan.
The spear of lightning hurtled across the battlefield for the enemy builder. He flinched, but one of his hellhounds barked and jumped before the attack. She took it, dying for him. He snarled and ducked behind a stalagmite rearing from the ground.
The battle was going wildly. Foneva and Ige died as Munjan grappled with what to do next. Suddenly, from the entrance of the tunnel, another ten hellhounds burst into the dungeon. A reserve force that the enemy held.
I split my forces up, but this man didn’t. Shit.
The ten rushed straight for Munjan and Melin.
“Lightning crackle and hiss, gird me in the love of Lady Uttu!” Munjan cried as the first hellhound leaped at him.
Static Aura crackled around him a moment before the hellhound struck the protective spell. Lightning sizzled around Munjan, throwing back the hellhound. She hit another, throwing off her attack before dying.
“Urudu Hum!” Melin cried.
A bar of steel struck a leaping hellhound in the face, crushing her skull and flinging her back into the fray. Cockatrices screamed, paralyzing two more of the attacking hellhounds. It was chaos out there. Vina roared.
The four-armed, flaming monster girl she fought burst into sparks. Vina, a burn on her side, charged at the crouching enemy dungeon builder. Her black hair waved behind her as she went for the kill. She had even more passion now than she had as a cheerleader.
“Whip and crack, let the lash of Lord Gibil strike!” the enemy builder cried.
The flaming whip struck Vina. Munjan’s cheerleader reeled back, flames engulfing her hair. She fell screaming to the floor, thrashing as she died. Anger boiled in Munjan as he focused on his enemy, trusting Melin’s magery to keep back the hellhounds.
“Hammer concusses, let the might of Lord Ishkur deafen!” cried Munjan.
