Chapter 29

Garnet flew over the island. She was feeling so good. She and Isatu had come up with a great plan. They were such an amazing duo. She grinned at the dragon-puppy flying off to her left. She stared down at the island.

Why wasn’t the dungeon entrance appearing? Was there a problem?

She glanced to the south. “Big bro, the second wave is incoming and...” She frowned at a new type of monster girls flying with them. They had fiery wings but weren’t phoenixes. They looked like ... angels? “Hey, Nina, what are those new monster girls flying at us.”

“No idea,” Nina Naughty said. “But we have bigger problems. There are invaders in the dungeon. We have to hold until Munjan mops them up.”

“Oh.” Garnet had a bad, bad feeling about those fiery-winged angels. So she focused on Fara. “Hey, Fara, what type of monster girls have flaming wings and flaming swords and, well, look like fiery Mrs. Lucinas?”

“Seraphim?” Fara answered. “Rotten leaves and moldering roots! Those are Level 4 monster girls!”

“What?” Garnet shouted out loud as Paetu and Feya led the flying monster girls toward the newcomers. There were ten of them. Ten Level 4 monster girls. “Pull back, Feya! We have to regroup! Those are—”

Waves of rolling fire erupted from the seraphim. The entire sky before the attacking force became a roiling wall of flames that swept over the hippogriffs, pixies, sphinxes, thunderbirds, Paetu, and Feya hurtling for it. A dozen monster girls vanished into those flames.

The heat reached Garnet. She gasped, her wings buffeted by it. The fire vanished with a loud growl. All the monster girls flying for the seraphim were gone. Taken out by one fiery burst of attack. An icy chill sank into Garnet’s guts.

“H-how did they do that?” she whimpered, the seraphim coming closer.

And they weren’t the only new monster girls. Galloping toward the bridge were pale-skinned women with fiery-red hair riding on black horses. Behind them strode...

“There are giants!” she shouted at the twelve-foot-tall women marching behind the monster girls on horses. They were clad in armor and carried weapons. Moving at their feet were frost-white women with icy hammers along with small, gray-furred foxes that scampered with them. “What is going on?”

The horsewomen reached the bridge. They ripped their heads off their shoulders and hurtled them at the gathering defenders. Crystal was urging the surviving monster girls into formation. Deathly black flames engulfed the flying heads. They crashed amid the monster girls on the island.

Detonated.

Ten eruptions of black flames ripped through the monster girls on the ground. Orcs, arachnes, will o’ wisps, hellhounds, and more died. Garnet trembled in the air. She looked around in horror. No reinforcements were coming. There were hardly any monster girls left. The seraphim were almost on her along with gray-winged and tawny-haired monster girls who shrieked like eagles.

“Big brother?” she sent, terrified.

I sprinted from the Vault, Fara and Kassie on my hills. “He really has level 4 monster girls?”

“it appears so!” Fara answered. “Garnet described seraphim, and Crystal said there was a force on horses that threw their heads. Those are dullahan, Level 4 Death monster girls.”

I had just lost half my surviving forces in less than a minute.

“Shit, shit, shit!” I snarled. “Siwang, he has Level 4 magic. I have no idea what he’ll be capable of.”

“We’re about to break through,” Siwang said. “I have a plan that should work anyways.”

“We don’t even know what Level 4 magic can do! His monster girls just massacred mine. Abort!”

“It’s too late,” said Siwang. “We’re in.”

“Shit!” I snarled as I burst into the throne room. I chanted out my first protective spell. “Strong and unyielding, let the granite of Lady Ki enhance!”
