Nova Nine stood across from the supervillain Inferness and reflected how ... strange it was.

He had once seen a fight like this, outside his old house. Two brawlers, going to down with cars as maces. It had been exciting. Electrifying. And it was fake. He was ninety nine percent sure that those two badasses, were he to find them now, were working the same kind of jobs he was most of the time. Fake. Made up.

Wrestling.

But compared to the sick lurching in his belly from when Krazy Klown and his Krazy Klown Kang had rolled up on the mosque, planning to leave dozens of innocent bodies in their wake, for no crime but the fact they worshiped a different religion from them?

This was a delight.

A dream.

“I’m not gonna go easy on you pretty boy,” Inferness purred.

“Funny, I thought that was-” Nova started.

Then he learned the difference between fake and wrestling.

She exploded into movement and before he knew it, her trident had connected with his jaw, the blunt edge of the left prong sending him shooting straight upwards. At full strength, his skull would have exploded, but somehow, she managed to put enough kinetic energy to send him shooting upwards ten meters in a single explosion of speed without actually doing much more than leaving his head ringing and jaw aching. Nova tumbled, his cape fluttering – and to his right, Inferness appeared with a crackling spray of red lightning, her teeth amazingly sharp looking.

Wham!

Her trident caught him in the shoulder and sent him shooting upwards again, tumbling even more wildly as the suburban houses became large toys beneath him. She appeared one last time in another spray, and whammed her trident between his legs and levered him upwards, sending him flipping end over end until he hit the apex of his height. He was fairly sure he was ‘above a tall building’ levels of high.

He managed to get a gravitational field under him, catching his fall – and then she appeared in the air before him. She didn’t fly. She just teleported, flickering from spot to spot with a haze of brimstone. Like a boxer, bounding from foot to foot to stay loose and flexible, but with teleporting.

“As I said!” she said, grabbing onto his neck with a grunt and a smirk. “I’m not going fucking easy, pretty boy!”

She hefted him up, her hand tightening around his throat and Nova knew, if he didn’t act, his first real fake fight was going to go down in history as a complete, embarrassing curb stomp. He focused – and felt the knot of power that served as his combat focus shifted in his grip. He lashed out and Inferness had to let him go as a crackling, glowing blue whip crackled into existence between the pair of them. He caught it from the air and snapped his arm to the side, drawing a slice through the air between them. Inferness laughed, her hair billowing around her head, allowing both eyes to be revealed.

Her left, normally covered by the hair, crackled with blue flames, smoke roiling from a hole in her head.

“Now we’re fucking talking!” she laughed.

In the streets, people had come out and were aiming phones at them.

Nova cracked that whip – the glowing blue edge of it wrapping around Inferness’s right ankle. She snarled – then exploded into a spray of mist and smoke. “Where-” he blinked, then looked down. She was standing on the pavement, arms spread, her grin mocking even from a distance.

She’s gonna turn the air into a fun lightshow. Be a shame to stop her! He thought.

“Lets see how you handle a taste of some Hellfire Blaster!” Inferness cackled, then started to twirl her trident above her head. Shimmering beads of green light flickered to life above her, glowing brighter and brighter. They swelled, flared, then turned into comets of red fire and billowing green smoke. Then she stepped back ... and sprang up and kicked. Hard. The first one shot towards his head with a crackling boom.

It would have been pretty easy to just take that ball of fairly obvious energy – most of it contained in the light show and the effects – and twist it apart. But that wasn’t the point, now was it?

Nova slashed his whip across his chest and the blue line of it intersected the sphere, which slashed in half, the two chunks given just enough momentum to swing around his body and explode in the air behind him, a pair of green flares that back lit his body, their concussive force causing his cape to flutter. The crowd cheered and screamed – in delight, he hoped – while Inferness started to use her trident like a bat, smashing more and more balls of fire at him. He slashed left and right, knocking them aside again and again, filling the air around him with smoke and fire while also letting himself drop bit by bit, until he landed across from her.

“Guess you’re not totally useless,” Inferness said, grinning as she brushed her hand along her bangs, pushing some down to cover her blazing blue eye. “But I’m getting sick of playing around ... lets end this.”

“Yeah. Lets...” Nova said, narrowing his eyes. He saw her stance shift. She was going to rush at him – but he could practically see the movement of her body before it happened, like a hazy image cascading ahead of her. She was going to aim for the space to the left of his head. Leave herself wide open. He just needed to take the opening. Nova clenched his whip, then figured ... why not show off? He tensed...

Inferness rushed at him. Pavement crumpled behind her with the force of her movement as she charged forward. “Raaahhhh!” She thrust her trident at him – and he rolled aside, cape flashing, whip crackling. It snapped around her throat and she skidded to a stop, her hand grabbing onto the edge of the whip, her eyes widening.

Nova twisted on his heel, hauling hard, and the whip transmitted the movement with a buzzing crackle, yanked Inferness off her feet and punted her directly into a garage door across the street from him. The impact exploded out a plume of dust and splinters and the resounding crash of a car being totaled rang out in the air, followed by a car alarm.

“ ... oops!” Nova hissed, his eyes widening. He had seen that Inferness was tough – but ... had he just...

He rushed towards the garage, while the man who had been filming him next to it slowly lowered his phone, blinking as he looked at the hole. Before he could walk over, Nova peered in and saw that Inferness was, in fact, face first through the back window of a hover-van, her torso having smashed the entire trunk in like a crumpled palm of an angry god. But before Nova made a move, she lifted one arm that stuck out behind her and gave him a thumbs up. Then she went ‘limp’ as if she had been knocked out.

“ ... you ... smashed my garage...” The man said, hesitantly.

“Never you fear, citizen!” Nova said, blushing as he grabbed onto Inferness and yanked her out of the windshield. Glass crinkled and metal squealed as she came free, her head lolling as she slouched her muscular body, so that Nova had to haul her around as if she was a particularly unwieldy mannequin. As her arms flopped around, Nova held out one hand, his other arm hooped around her waist to keep her from collapsing to the ground.

The car glowed – and then the metal straightened out, kinks untwisting, glass flying back up into the window, settling into place, then merging with the glass, as if it had never been smashed. He then waved his hand back down and the hole in the garage sealed itself with a crinkling crunch noise.

“Wow!” the man said, slapping the former hole, his palm sliding along it with a huge, beaming grin. “That’s amazing.”

“That’s Nova Nine for you,” Nova said, while Louise ran forward and slammed her body into his side, throwing her arms around him and hugging him.

“That was so amazing!” she said, excitedly. “I ... uh ... is she dead?”

“No, just, uh ... unconscious. I have to get her to, uh...” Nova found it was suddenly very hard to remember where the maximum security prison was, and what it’s name was, and what a prison even was, because Louise leaned in and whispered.

“You can do anything to my body you want later, Nova Nine...” then she drew back and blushed. Hard. Then she scampered off, giggling quietly.

Nova blinked several times, processing all the ways that she had meant that, then shook his head and waved at the crowd. “Bye!” he said, then focused and teleported. A haze of blue sparkles crackled and then he and Inferness appeared on the roof of a building a few miles away. The streets were humming with traffic, but few people were looking up – and Inferness was able to step aside, her grin playful as her tail swished from side to side behind her.

“Pretty nice – though, did you mean to leave yourself wide open for the first hit?” she asked, her voice playful.

“No,” Nova admitted

“Right, make sure you can keep yourself safe when someone is seriously going for you,” she said, then chuckled. “Also, next, if you want to use your powers to help someone and you’re worried it might be insulting, just show off something related and hope they think to ask.” She winked.

Nova blushed, hard. “H-Heh. I was that transparent?”

“You’re a hero. You guys always lay your hearts on your sleeves. Unless you don’t.” She grinned, toothily. “Now, I expect a cut from your comic sales – normal royalties for heels, and we can set up a running plotline later. Maybe your sister pissed me off?”

“Has she actually pissed you off?” Nova asked.

“Nah,” Inferness said – her trident appearing between her fingers as she held her hand out. She twirled it around, then let it rest on her shoulder. Despite the speed and grace with which she used it, the trident thunked into her broad, muscular shoulder with a meaty sound. It seemed heavy. Of course, it had felt pretty heavy as it had been bonking him around left and right. “She can’t actually steal my trident. It’s ... kind of an energy construct thing.”

“Right, one of those,” Nova smirked, then held out his hand. “Thanks for the fight, Inferness.”

“Thanks for being a fine, scrumptious piece of ass for me to oggle,” she said, grabbing his hand, shaking it with a grunt.

Nova’s ears twitched up – and she burst out laughing.

“Holy fuck!” she laughed. “I don’t think I’ve met a hero that reacted so obviously eager since BP!” She shook her head. You’re, what, eighteen?”

“I prefer to leave my age mysterious,” Nova said

“Eighteen, got it,” she said, smirking.

“And you’re what, six hundred and sixty six?” Nova asked.

“Eighteen,” she said, her eyes glinting.

“Ah, a fellow teen,” Nova hesitated. “Why did you turn heel?”

She snorted. “You don’t get my tragic backstory without laying me.” She stepped back, then turned away. “And that’s not happening.”

“Why?” Nova asked, chuckling. “I mean. Obviously, if you say no, nothing happens, but, we have some chemistry here.”

Inferness snorted, loudly. She turned back. “We do not have chemistry – we have banter. You are just bubbling over with hormones and want to stick your dick in anything that moves, up to and including the class dog.” Her one eye flashed. “But you did try and keep her feelings, well, kind of intact. So, you’re not the worst teenage boy that had ever lived. So, I’ll give you part one of my tragic backstory.” She sighed, softly. “I’m cursed with a devil contract that makes me a Lilin – a succubus.”

Nova nodded, slightly.

“But, turns out, I have a particular allergy to demonic magic. Everyone has a little bit of curse-resistance, you’d have to, right?” She shrugged a little. “Mine decided to go on overdrive. So, rather than sucking someone’s soul out with my cooter, I kind of...” She hesitated. “Smash it.”

Nova blinked. “Like. Smash ... their soul?”

“Yup!” she said. “No direct trip to Hell, just quick and total obliteration.” She shrugged. “Sucks, ya know.”

“I...” Nova cut back the first immediate thought which was that puts a new spin on vagina dentatus and instead said: “T-There’s more sex than just PIV, you know? I may be a teenage boy, but even I know! Remember when everyone was meming on Skrayper about not going down on chicks?”

Inferness laughed, swinging her arms over her trident as she looped it behind her neck, using it as a kind of arm-rest hangy thing. It showed off her muscular body, her full chest. Her denim jacket fluttered in the breeze as she shook her head.

“You’re a sweet kid, Nova-”

“We’re the same age.”

“But not very bright. I’m a fuckin’ succubus, and you think I didn’t try anal?” She sighed. “Any kind of sexual contact, splat.”

Nova blinked.

“Wait, to ... test that, how many-”

“Tragic backstories, buddy,” Inferness said. “Now. I have one very, very, very fortunate loophole.” She smirked. “If I’m not on the clock, I lose my demon powers. So, when I’m not on the clock, I am on some cock.” She cackled. “Gonna go and fuck six guys as quickly as I can. Maybe the football team wants to run a train on me.”

“I...” Nova shook his head, slowly. “Have fun, Inferness.”

“Smash ya later!”

She exploded into a cloud of red smoke and sparkles, which faded away.

Nova crossed his arms over his chest and sighed.

“Okay, that’s a long term project, then,” he said, softly.

Louise was sitting in her room, by her laptop, buzzing slightly with excitement. Nova could actually see her quivering as he peeked in through the window, hovering in a small caul of gravitic forces. He saw that she was wearing a rather loose fitting shirt and pants, and kept glancing at the window. Of course, she was looking at the window that looked out on the street, not the window that faced the house next to hers. So, gently, he rapped on it. She started, spun around, then ran to the window, grabbing onto it and opening it up.

“Nova!” she said, excitedly, and to his startlement, called out. “Mom! Dad! He’s here!”

The door opened and a gentleman with a large pipe and a dignified beard stepped in, followed by a plump woman with occidental features, bright green eyes, and two large fox tails that bloomed from behind her somewhat plain skirt. She was holding a tray covered in cookies, cut to hastily appear like a caped man in flight, frosted in blue and white.

“M’evening,” Louise’s dad said from around his mouthful of pipe.

“Hello, dearie!” Her mom said, tails swishing. “I know this is just a little tiny bit of what we could really offer, but, well, Louise said you wanted to do the sculpt for free, but, we can’t just let a growing boy like you go without cookies. Your mother must want you to eat up a lot!”

“Uh, she makes sure that I get well fed, don’t worry!” Nova said, holding up his palms and feeling a mixture of pleasure at this friendly welcome and disappointment, entirely rooted in his nutsack, that the possibility of railing Louise in whatever sculpt she chose was swirling down the drain.

“M’quite!” Louise’s dad said, pipe joggling between his lips. He stroked his beard with his free hand.

“Well, that’s good to hear, I’m glad that the city’s most famous mom is also one of the best. Now!” Her change in focus came with an almost audible click. “We’ve talked with Louise a lot ever since she decided she wanted a sculpt, and we’ve been saving up for it for a while, getting everything prepared and ready, but you can handle it for free, so we can put all that money into her college account, which is just, that’s just so spectacular!” Her mother was burbling on. “We’ve already got the new room ready for her, we were working it on all this past hour – it was going to be where we’d keep guests, if any with the right body plan came in, but-”

“Body ... plan?” Nova blinked, then looked over at Louise, who had opened up her laptop and turned on the holo projector.

“That!” she said.

That was a remarkably well done 3d sculpt of what appeared to be a draco-tiger-taur. Four legs, broad muscular body with massive claws, long whippy tail, all looking like a sleek fusion between a tiger and a dragon, including two big bat-wings, and then the chest of an anthro-tiger woman with a rather impressive set of muscles, tits, and teeth. She was holding a battleax and was posed mid rear.

“ ... I ... uh...”

“You don’t need to make the battle-ax, since she’s going into computer sciences,” Louise’s mother said, while her father nodded.

“M’quite.”

“Uh ... are you ... sure?” Nova asked, hesitantly. In his imagination, he could hear Inferness falling over herself, cackling with laughter.

“I’ve wanted this since I was nine,” Louise said, beaming, her eyes shining.

“Well.” Nova breathed in. “All right then!”

He focused and felt the knot of power in his chest trembling. The molecular structure of Louise was right there, and ... honestly, shifting her body around wasn’t that hard, if he kept within human norms. But trying to build an entirely new bodyplan led him to worries and concerns he hadn’t even considered before - for example, where and how would her stomach and intestines work? Where would he put the heart and how big would it need to be to pump enough blood to handle a body the size of a small horse. Would she be omnivorous or an obligate carnivore, as dragons and big cats were? How would he tune her metabolism to handle her new musculature, what would be required to keep her active for the same amount of time as human beings, who were all endurance predators that had evolved chasing down antelope in their bare feet?

Nova gulped and for a single second, considered just running as fast as he could from this towering responsibility.

But then he remembered something Dad had mentioned – now, yes, Dad had been talking about getting involved in a sex scandal. But it still did apply.

He wasn’t on his own.

“Uh, one moment!” he said, reaching into his synthsuit’s pocket. He drew out his handheld, skimmed through his contacts, and finally found Skrayper’s number. The phone rang. And rang again. Then there was a click.
