Chapter 12: Coffee, cake and secret wishes

Julie smiled reassuringly and stroked Sam’s cheek tenderly. “You will get through this. We’ll get through this together. Frank will be proud of you.”

Sam felt a little better with Julie’s words and closeness. Although the cage was still unbearable, he knew he wasn’t alone and that Julie was supporting him as best she could. “Thank you, Julie. The next day, Becky’s voice rang through the phone as she called Julie. “Hey Julie, I just baked a delicious cake and wanted to ask if you have time to come over? I’ve got fresh coffee too.”

“Of course, Becky. That sounds wonderful. I’ll come over right away,” Julie replied, delighted with the invitation.

A little later, the redhead and the blonde were sitting at Becky’s kitchen table, the smell of freshly baked cake and coffee permeating the room. “Have you heard from Frank or Larry yet?” Becky asked curiously.

Julie shook her head. “No, nothing yet. But I’m sure they’ll be back soon.”

Becky smiled broadly. “Larry wants to organize a meeting for all of us. I’m so looking forward to it. It’ll be a relaxed evening, you know? Just spending time together and maybe deepening our bonds a bit more.” Julie nodded enthusiastically. “That sounds fantastic, Becky. I’m looking forward to it too. I’m sure it’ll be nice to see everyone together instead of always apart.”

Becky took a sip of coffee and leaned back. “Julie, I have to tell you something else. Larry and I had an ... exciting experience in the park the other day.”

Julie leaned forward with interest. “Oh, tell me more. What happened?” Becky laughed lightly and began to recount the details. “Larry and I were on a park bench, it was such a hot moment. A mischievous smile appeared on Becky’s lips as she continued: “It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon. We had decided to take a walk through the park. But, as often happens, the mood suddenly became more charged between us.” Becky paused to look into Julie’s mesmerized blue eyes before continuing. “We ended up on a secluded park bench, surrounded by tall trees and rustling leaves.
