Chapter 1

MONDAY NIGHT

Alyssa sits up in bed, taking a final look over her notes on her latest case. As one of the newer lawyers at her firm, Alyssa knows that she needs to work extra hard especially being a woman. Lying next to her in bed, her husband takes off his glasses and places them on the nightstand next to the bed. He lays back with his eyes closed towards the ceiling. Recognizing this act as him ready to go to sleep, Alyssa hastily puts her notes away. She snuggles up next to him, wrapping her arms around his waist in a loving embrace. Alyssa holds the position for a moment. Then her hands and arms slowly start to work their way downwards.

“Mmmmm...” he mumbles. “Not today honey ... I’m too tired.” Her husband turns away from her.

Visibly disappointed, Alyssa pouts. Her cute brown eyes peering behind a set of bangs goes unnoticed. This has been an ongoing thing for a while. Even though they would have sex occasionally, it wasn’t enough to satisfy Alyssa.

As a late bloomer, Alyssa didn’t really get much attention from her peers. This combined with the rigorous curriculum of law school make her pretty inexperienced when it came to sex. She met her husband at a law school event that his company was helping host.

He was much older than her. And as a charming event planner, different from all the pompous law students Alyssa was used to, she fell hard in love. After just a year of dating, he proposed. Despite her parents objections and those around her claiming that Alyssa was moving too fast, they eloped and got married.

Their first year of marriage went well. He took Alyssa’s virginity and they had a pretty healthy sex life. After a year though, Alyssa’s husband was promoted within his company. The increased responsibilities and work load combined with his increasing age diminished his need for sex which often times left Alyssa wanting.

TUESDAY MORNING

Alyssa looks at herself in the mirror. She stands tall in her navy business skirt with matching jacket over a plain white blouse. Her skirt just barely mid thigh, not enough to be provocative but enough to show her youth. Alyssa absentmindedly plays with the ends of her brunette hair. Her long hair is neatly straightened and ends just around her chest.

Like many other 26 year olds do, Alyssa looks for nonexistent wrinkles and imperfections. Satisfied with her look, she proceeds to go to the kitchen to make breakfast for her and her husband.

Alyssa and her husband sit across from each other eating breakfast in silence on their small dining table. She looks at him expectantly but he is cold and silent as he finishes his breakfast.

“The eggs were a bit salty today,” he notes.

A flicker of annoyance flashes across Alyssa’s face.
