Alyssa’s tits were back to normal, but her profile still open, Jack said, “I’m going to make a few more changes to you.”
“Will they hurt?”
Jack shrugged, navigating menus, “You might have a headache for a few seconds, less than a minute, nothing worse than that, I promise.”
“What changes?”
Jack smiled at her, “I’ll tell you before I apply them, okay?”
Alyssa nodded nervously, realizing how much power he held in his hands right now. As he edited and navigated menus, she thought about other changes he might have already made to her.
‘Did he make me fuck him?’ she asked herself. ‘Oh my god! He turned me into his little slut!’ Then she thought about it a bit more, she’d had a crush on Jack for years. That wasn’t something he implanted, unless he added memories going back to when she was thirteen and started masturbating. Jack had often been a boy in those fantasies.
But he did something. She thought back today about the events and realized he did something when he touched her, rubbing in the tanning oil. And he did something to her parents, and her brother. Her mother completely ignored that she’d caught them in bed together--naked!
Jack broke her chain of thoughts and said, “Ok, so I’m going to fix your vision. I don’t know if you know this, but you’ve actually needed glasses for a while. Also, you’ve got a cavity and I’m going to fix that. Your IQ is 110--you’re already smarter than you think--but I’m going to bump that up to 125. Your EQ is 97--higher than mine was before I edited it--and I’m bumping that up to max, 120. I’m increasing your Learning Ability to 100%, the maximum, meaning you will learn new things as fast as your IQ allows. I’m also including a perfect Eidetic memory, which means you’ll be able to remember everything that you’ve ever seen, heard, read, etc.
“Before I apply this, I want you to think about it. You will be smarter, you’ll be better at reading other people’s emotions, understanding your own emotions, and therefore manipulating other people because you understand their emotions. You’ll have an easier time learning, and you’ll remember everything, and I do mean everything that has ever happened. When I did this to myself, I was on the floor in the fetal position for fifteen minutes because I suddenly remembered the attack, every part of it, including the pain and humiliation. I basically got attacked a second time. If there is anything in your past that you don’t want to remember, I can put in a block for that.
“What do you think?”
Alyssa thought about it for a minute and couldn’t think of a reason why not to let him do this.
She nodded, “Go ahead.”
The tingling came again, this time inside her head and it definitely was accompanied by pain. The pain wasn’t intense, but it did hurt. She was convinced it was more than a minute, but when it was over, the pain didn’t fade, it just stopped.
Jack put his phone down and started driving again. He was quiet, allowing Alyssa to get used to her new reality.
Alyssa, for her part, did notice her vision was clearer. While she hadn’t noticed not being able to focus on things close or far away, she had noticed that headlights when she drove or rode around at night were blurry. Because he’d just fixed her mild astigmatism, that was no longer an issue. She didn’t notice a difference in her intelligence and would have to see if she noticed her own emotions or others later.
Alyssa said, “I don’t feel any smarter.”
“What are you reading right now, for fun or for school?” Jack asked.
Alyssa said, “I’m reading The Count of Monte Cristo for AP English.”
“You’re taking AP English as a Sophomore and you think you’re dumb,” Jack chuckled. Before she could respond, Jack asked, “What’s the third paragraph on page 54 say?”
Alyssa immediately quoted:
“Villefort seemed on the point of fainting.
“It’s a short paragraph, the next line is him speaking:
““No, Your Majesty,” he said, “I am staying at the Hotel de Madrid, in the Rue de Tournon.”--Holy shit! I can remember the whole book. Well, up to page 192 when the Count promises to meet Albert on the twenty-first of May.
“This is insane.”
Jack laughed, turning right at a red light and seeing the parking lot of the high school ahead. “Just don’t try to remember any early childhood memories. You have the ability, but the human mind puts natural blocks on those memories and while the app removes blocks you put up for emotional trauma, it doesn’t remove those blocks. My friend--the guy who gave me the app--warned me that you can focus on trying to remember something from when you were very young child and after a few seconds, you will remember it. But think about it before you do.”
“Why?” Alyssa asked.
Jack explained, “Remembering walking for the first time is amazing. Seeing your parents really young and freaking out with utter happiness is pretty great. But remembering your father changing your diaper might trigger trauma like you’re being molested. Remembering breastfeeding might be traumatic. Get it?”
Alyssa shuddered, “Ok, yeah, I see what you mean. Be careful. Understood.”
Jack pulled into a parking spot and turned off the car.
He turned to Alyssa and said, “You are the only person I’ve told about this app. I have a best friend I haven’t told. I haven’t told my parents, I have no intention of telling anyone else. I decided to tell you this afternoon while we were making love--”
Alyssa opened her mouth to say something, but Jack continued. “No, I know we’re not ‘in love’. It’s not romantic. We’re not going to get married, have kids, and live happily ever after. I know that.
“But I do love you. It’s definitely strange. You’re my cousin. I do love you. But it’s ... complicated.”
Alyssa nodded, “I love you too, but you’re right ... complicated.”
