Jack frowned at his cousin, Jessica.
“You don’t really expect me to answer that, do you?”

“You’re welcome. But I am gonna need some details,” Jessica grinned. “So, what exactly did you do to that girl to get her to scream like that?”
Jack’s phone rang, interrupting them. Jack saw it was from an unknown number.
“Uh, Jess ... I need to take this. We’ll talk. Later. I promise,” he said, moving as quickly as he could back up to his room.
Closing the door, Jack accepted the call.
“Hello?”
Matthew’s voice came through the tiny phone speaker in his ear, “Hello, Jack.”
“Oh thank god. You know, you really should have given me a way to contact you, an e-mail, a phone number, fucking carrier pigeon ... something,” Jack complained.
Matthew sighed audibly, “Maybe. Sorry about that.”
“Listen,” Jack took a breath. “Did you edit and password protect my cousin?”
“Who is your cousin?”
“Her name is Jessica Johansson, from Midland, Texas.”
There was a long pause, then Matthew said, “No. No one named Jessica Johansson, and I’ve never been to Midland.”
“Ok, then I’ve got a strange one. My cousin lives in Midland, she just moved in with us temporarily. She’s here for a college internship at UT Dallas for the summer. I followed your advice and I’ve been locking my family and loved one’s profiles as well as my own. I checked her profile when she was locked. I tried a few password attempts, but the system says I’ll get locked out if I keep trying.”
Matthew was silent for a moment, then said, “Ok, when you can, you should take a trip to Midland. Check on your other family members there. Before you go, do some research about your cousin’s school. Most schools have been putting their yearbook photos online for a while now. Check to see if any of them have drastically changed in appearance.
“That was one of my mistakes.”
“Yeah, you mentioned that in the videos,” Jack acknowledged.
“If you can find me the way you did, I’m sure you can find if someone has access to MPC in Midland.”
“What if I don’t find anything?” Jack asked.
“What do you mean?”
Jack sighed, “It’s strange. I haven’t seen my cousin in a few years, so I might be wrong about this. But I don’t think she’s been edited.”
“Explain.”
“Like I said, it’s been a few years. She was beautiful before. She’s still beautiful. But she’s no Perfect 10 model. She’s just ... Jess. Her personality hasn’t changed all that much since we were little kids.”
“Huh. Interesting.” There was a pause, then Matthew said, “Though your idea assumes that Jessica was locked recently. Within the last year or two.”
Jack was quiet, but said, “Meaning?”
“What if she was edited and locked a long time ago? Back when you were kids, maybe even earlier?”
Jack said, “I ... I guess that’s possible. But why?”
Matthew said, “Let me set up another for-instance situation for you ... Let’s say you’re a young man in the late nineties. In high school or college. You find the MPC program and you use it the way almost all of us do. You use it to make your life better, fuck women, have fun, etc.”
“Okay...”
“But you aren’t as smart as we are. You screw up. In the most common way for some guy who is spreading his cock around like a tray full of cookies at a party--”
“You get some girl pregnant,” Jack guessed.
“Exactly. Now, I’m not saying it’s your uncle, though he’s definitely on the suspect list. But maybe someone with MPC fancied your aunt back then.”
Jack sighed, “Yeah, I guess that’s possible.”
“And maybe this guy learned his lesson, started figuring his shit out. And when little Jessica was born, he locked her profile to protect her.”
Jack and Matthew were both quiet for a moment, then Jack said, “That’s definitely a possibility.”
“Keep your mind open to other possibilities when it comes to finding this stuff out. As far as I know, no one else in the Dallas area has access to MPC. I’m guessing you went through the SDHS yearbook and that’s how you figured out who was locked and who was missing?”
“Yes.”
“I always knew that someone might figure out that the Northridge Women’s Academy was fake. But it’s also a dead end. Even the government wouldn’t be able to find me that way.”
“I found you,” Jack said.
