The more compelling mystery, to Jenn, however is what "punishment" is afforded to those who break the club rules. In this tale, she learns first-hand about the price for breaking the rules.

Fuck. I love this story. When I have my first baby, I'm gonna name it "Club Rules" …I hope it's a boy, that's kind of a silly name for a girl.
There is nothing strikingly original in this story except how well the author presents it. The basic premise is that a secret club exists under the ironic pretext of being a Christian Youth Group. The reality, as may be surmised by the codes and synopsis, is that the organization is really an opportunity for attractive teenage boys and girls to lose their inhibitions and have all the sex they want.
We've seen that idea before and it's a good one. What makes such stories good or bad is the execution. The technicalities of writing and the simple fact is that Orestes does a wonderful job of describing the setting and characters. I've always enjoyed his rather stark brevity, the way Orestes can pack a lot of story into fewer words, and he knows what he's doing. He doesn't worry about generating sympathy for his characters. He doesn't care what we think of them and it lends his story credibility, in my opinion. The idea that I'm free to form my own opinions, for good or bad, and the story will work either way...well, that's pretty cool. A lot of writers don't have that much faith in themselves or their audience.
In "Club Rules" we have a narrator, our hero, who is something of a pretentious bitch. Her boyfriend is sort of callous, perhaps bored the way teen boys are after a crush wears off. There are the assorted friends and rivals, and then there's the mysterious stranger, the woman (and only adult) who manipulates characters and events. None of them are over-written the way we've become accustomed to in erotica. Orestes gives us just enough that we're interested and willing to do our part and use our imaginations to fill in the blanks. He doesn't answer every question and I like that.
I like the psychology too. I suppose that as much as the author's style appeals to me, it's his consistent exploration of human psychology and behavior that interests me the most. The situations that the characters find themselves in comes most often from their own actions, from their own desires which are usually hidden and unexplored at the beginning of the story. So it is for the main character in this story. I just really, really like journeys of self-discovery and Orestes is very skilled at giving them to us.
I also like the sex which is somewhat restrained, as is usually the case in this author's library. Orestes doesn't go over-the-top in grand porn tradition. He gives us the sex without a lot of adjectives and adverbs and paragraphs filled with the pulse-pounding exchange of body fluids. He gives us those elements essential to the narrator. I love that self-control and by avoiding the long, detailed, blow-by-blow descriptives, Orestes just makes it hotter for me.
The bottom line? This is erotica, not pornography. In my opinion, this isn't the best story Orestes has given us, but it is my favorite. I strongly urge you to read "Club Rules" and enjoy the style; enjoy the flavor of a story that takes the same fast-food ingredients we've seen time and time again, but serves them up in a dish worth remembering fifteen minutes later. Orestes is my favorite chef, even if he always leaves me hungry for more. That's not a bad thing, believe me.
