From little acorns . . .

You don't have to know the writing history around Jonas' "Finding Bathsheba" to realize that this is a story that grew in the telling. All you have to do is read it, and you'll feel the muscle, flesh and substance adding to it with each passing chapter.

What begins as musings on a vouyeristic moment by the protagonist, Jack Williams, regarding his teenaged sister-in-law, grows to a series of scenes in which he finds himself sexually involved with all three sisters in the family, and then becomes a full-fledged, well-plotted story with a cast of roughly 20 well-developed characters. It improves from being just a very good stroke piece to a true page-turner, before your very eyes.

What's even better is that it does so without forgetting this it's still erotica. Although the sex sometimes takes a backseat to the characters' machinations, the chapters are still heavily seeded with intense couplings, without them becoming gratuitous. Jonas has a talent for enfusing those scenes with passion and emotion.

On a site at which there's no lack of stories about incest, "Finding Bathsheba" still stands out from the crowd in its consideration of how such a relationship affects other members in the family, even examining the relationship from both extremes of the spiritual point of view. It does so without being at all heavy-handed.

Jonas will also likely have you eager for a sequel, with a number of story lines ripe for development. But the point at which he decided to end this portion of the tale is natural and satisfying.

The author gets high marks for both plot and the stroke factor, which isn't always the case in online erotica. So whether you're looking for a sweaty reading experience or just a cracking good story, you'd do well to move "Finding Bathsheba" to your reading queue.

I first read 'Finding Bathsheba' about half a year ago. It was a story that I enjoyed so much that I set it aside for a second read. Just done that, and it is as good the second time as it was the first.

The story revolves around three central characters in a polyamorous relationship, characters I couldn't help but care about. It also centers on the family of two of them, a family that is dominated by a stern, uncompromising, religious and dominant father, but softened and held together by the mother who has submitted to her husband's will. The supporting characters, many of them critical to the plot, fit the story perfectly to produce a very enjoyable read. There is teenage angst, adult intrigue and a subsurface strata of minor story lines that have the potential to become a major part of the plot in the future.

Technically it is very good, especially for a first fully complete novel. Jonas's style draws the reader into the story, and into the minds of the characters. He examines their thoughts and reactions so that you understand how they see what is happening and why they react as they do. There are errors such as transposing words or using an incorrect word, but the story just drags you past them with no more than a momentary hesitation. Others not as pedantic would ignore them completely.

The sex scenes are great. Some are better than great, and they are frequent and different enough to hold your attention if that is want you want, but it is all dominated by the drama that is taking place.

'Finding Bathsheba' is worth checking out. As of this date I am waiting for the follow up story as promised by the author for around this time of the year or early next year. (just a gentle reminder!)
