It's hard to review a story this short without giving out the whole plot so let us just say that Amelia has just had a very unpleasant surprise - unpleasant enough that she forgoes closer comforts and drives all night to see the one person who will give her the understanding and comfort she needs.
There is no sex in this story, not even implied. Friendship and something more, yes, but that's where the story ends.
I don't recall any technical issues. There were a couple of phrases that were turned oddly to my eyes but they worked well with the rhythm of the story.
As for the general appeal - I only wish it had been longer. It's hard to say anything about the author's longer term prospects from just a couple of very short pieces but I'll be watching for more of her work.
