Tom is in his last year at University. He can't afford much, but at least he has his slave to keep him happy without worrying about someone to fuck, his Mother.
He receives a message from an influential Clan Elder that he, Mr. Duncan, is coming to visit him. Then he receives a message that his father has killed himself as he has lost his house, and his concubine slave his daughter, and his standing in the Clan because of his Adultery. And on top of all that his sister who was to be sold was sent back to the Family Master, her brother Tom.
We also find out that because she was no longer a virgin, she could not be sold as a wife, her father having taken her to his bed when he divorced Tom's mother.
More and more complicated as we learn more about the Clan way of life.
