Reviewed:
I don't often review the same author twice, and never twice in a row--well, not until now. After my rather sideways review of The Odds, I felt I owed it to the author to review something not in a genre I dislike.
And this one isn't. It's a story about some sort of cult, one that's mostly women but with a few men in control, and is told from the women's perspective. There's a certain mystery about it that is slowly revealed.
Full disclosure: I have read the entire Bookapy version, so I know what happens beyond what's posted on SOL at the time of this writing. I'll try not to give away any spoilers.
Like The Odds, this is one of the most well-written stories in my recent memory. As I said in my previous review, the author has a gift for language, and I just love the way their words flow; I'm envious.
The characters are well-constructed, though their motivations seem opaque at first. The plot makes sense, as does the storyline. I can easily imagine this being described in a documentary about a real-life cult.
Technically, it's quite good, but for a couple of nits (yeah, I know, picky, picky, picky--it's what you get when an editor writes a review).
In some ways, this story reminds me of some of the work of Alexis Siefert: well-written, though some of the material may make you uncomfortable.
If you're looking for guns and secret agents and big tits, well, that's not really what this story is about. But if you like good story-telling and appreciate a mastery of the English language, then I recommend you give this one a try.
