An Ann Douglas story is always worth reading, she generally tells a good tale. Her writing is grammatically correct and well edited. Typos are rare.
The plot for this story is good, well developed and moves at just the right pace. Her apology for possible geographical errors is not needed. The existence or otherwise of a particular road has no effect on the story.
Her only error concerns the car, the Morris Minor Traveller, and this does not cause any problems with the development of the story. (Ms. Douglas, if there was a 'feedback to author option on your page, I would have mentioned this to you privately).
The Morris Minor was a small English car with a saloon (sedan for American readers) style body having either 2 or 4 doors. It was also available as a convertible (ragtop), 2 doors only. The Traveller was an estate car, complete with structural timber pieces, to give it a pre-war estate car style. With the rear seats folded, it is just possible to fit a bicycle into this vehicle. When Chris arrived at the cottage, there is mention of him deciding not to slide across the bench but to alight from the passenger side door. There was no bench seat option on the Minor, it had bucket seats with the gear lever and handbrake in between them. Getting across from one seat to the other was not easy.
That is my only criticism of the story and I'm sorry that it has to be delivered in this public manner.
I do recommend this to any reader who likes a plausible plot, well drawn character with whom one can engage and excellent narrative.
