MisguidedChild has created a great story in three parts:
The first is ‘Companion.’
In the tale, you meet Caleb Connor, an employee of the state of Arizona, camping in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. It was the Thanksgiving Holiday, and he did not have anyone. He wanted to spend the time alone. After his wife Gina had divorced him, being alone suited Caleb ideally.
While looking for rocks, interested in geology, he witnessed some lights crash into the desert not far from him. Caleb was knocked to the ground by the concussion of whatever had impacted the earth.
Upon further investigation, he meets something different, and the story grows into the epic it becomes. The story has many twists and turns, dealing with unexpected life forms. ‘Companion’ is worth reading.

This is a very well written story, which takes a not uncommon concept but deals with it in a fresh and original manner. The characters are well drawn and generally quite credible, the dialogue flows well and the author concentrates on the plot rather than providing too many paragraphs of tab A, slot B and the interactions thereof, which can often divert one's attention from what is important.
I do urge you to read this book, it is well worth it and if you can encourage Mr. Child to hurry up with parts 2 and 3 of this trilogy, you will have done us all a good turn!
