And then along came Lance ...
This is a short, sexy fable told in a kind of high-English that reminds me of something between a Brothers Grimm fairy tale and a Victorian folly.
The prose takes a few paragraphs to get used to, with very long sentences and precious little punctuation; although it's possible that this is a deliberate technique on the part of the author, harry lime, who clearly has a strong mastery of English prose.
Within a few minutes I was able to catch the cadence of the story; it helps if you pretend you are standing on a stage holding a skull called Yorick.
The sex is abundant but not graphic; this seems more of a saucy exercise in writing technique and poetry than it is genuinely titillating erotica.
Considering it was quite short, I thought it was fun and worth a read for something different, though it won't appeal as a stroke story.
PLOT: Most Amazing (10) - Fun and imaginative; it makes full use of the short format.
TECHNICAL: V.Good (8) - Not sure I'm fit to judge. I would have liked some more punctuation to help me find the cadence of the story. The use of language was extremely clever, but being such an ambitious use of technique, even minor failures in word choice clanged more loudly than a standard stroker.
APPEAL TO ME: Good (7) - I'm mostly here for titillating stories and this one didn't hit that mark, although it is probably the case that it's not supposed to. For that reason, I'm going to leave the official mark for APPEAL blank so that I don't turn people off. If you're keen enough to read this far into the review, then you should have no trouble navigating the story.
VERDICT: Read the story. Expand your horizons. It's not much of an investment in time and it's good fun.
