Bec by BarBar Just one of the best pieces of writing on SOL. This story ends up tugging on the heart strings. Great characterization and a favorite re-read when I am feeling down. Start with Bec, and read the rest. As I'm writing this, Bec 4 is posting. I'm so freaking excited about that. I'll drop whatever I'm doing to go and read the new chapters when they come out.
A Fresh Start by rlfj Just an amazing piece of storytelling. This and it's follow on are well worth the investment of time. rlfj is one of the better writers on SOL.
The Grim Reaper by rlfj I teared up several times while reading this. Grim is such a great character and rlfj does a good job of examining some pretty difficult issues, such as survivors guilt and PTSD.
Rebecca Danced by EzzyB Rebecca Danced and the other stories in EzzyB's Chaos series are a great coming of age story. I kind of view all three as one body of work. You should read all three, preferably in one long session.
Unforgettable Weeks by Jay Cantrell Jay Cantrell writes fun and creative stories that are almost always worth a read. This one is, I think, some of Jay's best work. You should read Unending Night first though.
Heroes by Don Lockwood Another one that I find tugs at the heartstrings more than a little. As someone who was an outsider in High school, this one speaks to me on several levels. Another one that I hit for a semi-frequent re-read when I'm feeling down.
Bec4: The Wrong Wardrobe by BarBar Just brilliant storytelling with a cognitively different main character. You should read the first 3 parts first.
The Smith by Shaddoth Just one hell of a good yarn. I missed about 5 hours of sleep because I literally couldn't stop reading. I do hope he returns to this universe.
The Adventures of Young Will Potter by Argon Argon continues to amaze with his takes on the Nelsononian navy. This one gives a different take with the life of a Purser's Mate. Well worth a read.
