Sorry to hear this. It was his stories and those by other early writers that made this site a favorite internet stopping point for me. RIP
I'm really sorry to hear of the passing of cmsix. He was the one who inspired me to write and post on SOL.
For those interested, he has written a story that is sort of a short biography. Lots of typos but a fun read.
My English is not up to being able to translate this into what it's supposed to mean: "Hell, the nursing home said they were almost sure they could get medicaide to foot the bill foilable in all the romsr my peg leg now."

He was making a joke. He was talking about the cost of the surgery to remove his foot, ankle, and lower leg due to gangrene and the supply and fitting of an artificial limb being paid by the government medical support system called Medicaid.

I got it that he made a joke and I know about Medicaid, I just can't see how to fix the typos to better understand it ;)
What word is "romsr" supposed to be?
What word is "romsr" supposed to be?
I always took that to be some sort of Medicaid payment group or bill type acronym he didn't put capitals on.
What word is "romsr" supposed to be?
My guess is it was a typo. If it is, the only word that sort of fits that I can come up with is 'rumors'.
My brain wants to fill in "room service" for romser. But that doesn't make any sense in context.
My brain wants to fill in "room
Are artificial legs normally hollow? That's where bad guys store guns/knives/drugs in the movies.

He will be missed, though he's been out of action for quite a while (nursing homes typically don't have terrific technology, high-speed internet or even many adaptive technologies to help people overcome their handicaps. I hope his last years were positive, though I know they were tough on him.
Maybe we should all band together and start a quick writing contest: a Cmsix Tribute Collection?
(nursing homes typically don't have terrific technology, high-speed internet or even many adaptive technologies to help people overcome their handicaps.
These days they have this thing called assisted living. Nursing homes are for people who require full time nursing care.
People who can function with minimal support given available adaptive technologies don't belong in a nursing home.

That's definitely true, but the quality of care varies widely between the various nursing homes, utterly independently of the fees charged.
Some are quite social and engaging, and many are adaptive and helpful, however many prefer drugging their patients to keep them quietβusing drugs which tend to KILL anyone with any evidence of dementia.
If you ever have to use one, it pays to shop and ask around before committing anyone, and ignore what the director of the Nursing Home says entirely. (Since I have a friend who's an expert in dementia care, I get the scuttlebutt on a variety of nursing home problems across the country, and elder abuse is rampant!.)
While giving someone access to a laptop or even a tablet might seem excessive, for a long-time author, it might be the link to their pasts that they need to survive. :)

My wife has been the Executive Director of two different Assisted Living Facilities, and Nurse at three others. (She has her ED License.) She also has run a business to assist elderly residents in assisted living facilities as an independent contractor, working for the resident.
I've heard pretty much all of the horror stories. There ARE good assisted living facilities, you just have to search for them. Some of the sites that say they'll find you someplace at no cost to you really are at no cost to you as the resident - because they charge the facility two or three months worth of rent as their fee if you pick them. Which means they're not in the business of finding YOU the best place, they're in the business of finding their biggest payday.
One place she worked and really liked had all levels of care in one facility. Minimal care (residents in their own buildings), assisted living, skilled nursing (aka nursing home), and a lockdown dementia unit. They were a great facility, but when they got bought out by a larger company, the bigger company fired all the management.
Maybe we should all band together and start a quick writing contest: a Cmsix Tribute Collection?
The stories would never get finished...
RIP, cmsix. You will be missed.
Hear hear!
Or, more appropriately concerning the site: Read, read!
If nothing else, let's all reread a few of his old classics.
He will be missed. My tribute will be to read every story in chronological order. Wish i could have met him, he wrote how i thought. Hope he found his keyboard waiting for him in heaven.

They just have their own isolated internet.

To make a firewall joke or not, that is the question.
God: "Welcome cmsix, I very much enjoyed your stories, tell me, now you are here, any chance you could finish the incomplete ones..?"
cmsix: "You first...."
His storyies were always fun.
my defining reason to be and stay here.
Thank you very much cmsix. I and all too many others will miss you.

That's been brought up in prior threads. From what I recall of those threads, he wasn't satisfied with what he wrote, so he wanted to fix the portion of the stories he had written. But couldn't figure out how to fix the posted content and didn't want to complete the rest of the story until he did.
Anyone know why most of his stories are incomplete?
In a lot of cases, they're even more incomplete than they once were, as he was trying to rewrite them to weave it all into a singular universe(well multi-verse?) when he lost his internet access.
As a seminal writer
Since his stories didn't really feature a nautical theme and therefore hardly if ever mentioned seamen, his work cannot truly be termed seminal.
ps
AJ please restrain yourself from comments concerning sticky keyboards :)

Sticky keyboard - guilty.
Reproductive fluids - guilty.
But the reproductive fluids of apples and oranges - I have a disgusting habit of eating at my desk :(

It's not disgusting if she's enjoying it... :) Just messy and hard to clean up
May we all wish him well on his journey to the far past. May there be much bruga for our dear departed CMSix. Keep an eye on him, Argent.
