That which I greatly feared...

I like my bike. I like riding my bike. I've not ridden him for a few weeks (until today) for various reasons, 'til today... lovely day, dry, not freezing. Time for a visit to the Yorkshire Air Museum.
Doing great until four miles from the museum.
Then hit a patch of oil on a tight left-hand bend. The first time I've dropped a bike in over forty years. The title? The one thing I've always feared when riding is to lose traction on the back wheel on a corner.
Result? Slightly bent footrest and holes in the left leg of my oversuit. Amazingly, nothing serious, though I'll be pretty stiff tomorrow, I think. Poor Oscar, Poor Ted.
Anyway, now well into the seventh chapter of a new story...

I have worked out how to add photos and the moderator didn't delete any I offered, so the story now has the principal illustrations I intended. I do still have some photos I took at Metheringham, though the interior ones at the visitors' centre are darker than I like. As before, an email address will get you copies.

It's been a while, but I'm ready to start posting a new Jenni story, 'Norma'. Six chapters in this one, posted alternate days.

Memorial Tour

I finally managed to visit the grave of P/O J.G. Magee, as well as a couple of other memorials of interest. My original text includes photos, but for some reason I've been unable to persuade my office suite to include them in the HTML version.
I'll be happy to respond to any requests for copies of the photos to anyone sending a valid email address, or the file of my original document in either .odt or .doc.

I have intended for years to visit Holy Trinity Scopwick to pay my respects to the author of 'High Flight'. Thanks to Google Maps and a helmet headset, I finally found the church by diverting a little from a ride to East Kirkby and the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre.
But could I find the headstone? I mean, military headstones are quite distinctive, and the churchyard isn't that big...
So, sadly, went on my way. It was, otherwise, a good, enjoyable and satisfying ride. The museum had the Tony Agar NF Mosquito out in the sun, and taxied it up and down, and, of course, I had a good wander around and a great lunch.
When I got home, though, I did with my laptop what perhaps I should have done with my smart phone.
Duh.
Lincolnshire is covered with RAF bases, active and otherwise. Scopwick has a military cemetery as well as the churchyard, not too many yards away, just not where I passed by.
Sigh. I shall have to return...
