I have intended for years to visit Holy Trinity Scopwick to pay my respects to the author of 'High Flight'. Thanks to Google Maps and a helmet headset, I finally found the church by diverting a little from a ride to East Kirkby and the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre.
But could I find the headstone? I mean, military headstones are quite distinctive, and the churchyard isn't that big...
So, sadly, went on my way. It was, otherwise, a good, enjoyable and satisfying ride. The museum had the Tony Agar NF Mosquito out in the sun, and taxied it up and down, and, of course, I had a good wander around and a great lunch.
When I got home, though, I did with my laptop what perhaps I should have done with my smart phone.
Duh.
Lincolnshire is covered with RAF bases, active and otherwise. Scopwick has a military cemetery as well as the churchyard, not too many yards away, just not where I passed by.
Sigh. I shall have to return...

I somehow contrived to miss several continuity errors in 'Taming the Shrew'. I do appreciate - a lot - having issues pointed out, whether they are typos, factual errors, or continuity errors. However, I'd really rather have those comments via mail feedback, as, when corrected, the comment is no longer relevant, it's easier to keep track of what I'm doing, and I do try to deal with errors. Thank you to a couple of people who pointed out that there really wasn't enough time for dealing with Amelia and getting Charlie to the mansion! I managed to get that all on one day in about half an hour, rather than Charlie visiting the next afternoon as I really intended! Taming the Shrew ends tomorrow with Chapter six, but of course there is plenty of potential to take the characters forward, particularly with Emily, Penny, and Beatson's Garage.

I've noticed a continuity error in chapter 4 - Helen Penwithern in chapter one has become Kate Morris. I have submitted a corrected chapter with apologies all round.

A new Devastation Diary entry posts today. I hope to be able to post every other day. As always, I welcome feedback and comments. While I try to make sure there are no typos or other errors, even with Jerry and Peter's efforts, they do slip through.

Fan belt?

I'm an old foggy. Back in the day when I was learning about engines, cars had 'fan belts', which, apart from turning a mechanical fan which drew cool air through a radiator, also drove a dynamo or alternator. But now, the fan is electric and only works when the water temperature rises above a certain point - great idea, I think. However, that means that the belt which drives the alternator is no longer a 'fan belt'. So - is it an 'accessory belt" or what? All of which is to introduce a moan that the... drive belt? of my Ford Focus broke the other day. It appears to be totally inaccessible and I haven't bothered to work on a car for years; it seems to me to be better to allow trained mechanics to fiddle with all that sophistication and buried machinery. Only trouble is, when something critical stops working, how do you get the workshop to fix it in a timely manner? TWO weeks without being able to use the car! Not that I really don't prefer the motorbike, but there are times when the bike just isn't capable, collecting bulky stuff, for example.
Oh, and I ought to be able to post a new Devastation Diary entry soon.
