I've been limited for the past few months in how much time I can spend writing. I spent most of of the month of July helping my siblings clean out my mother's house after we put her in assisted living. The lady is a pack rat, so a lot of work was involved.
The month of August was dedicated to getting rid of a lot of my own junk. Some of that was motivated by having had to deal with Mom's mess, but it was also prompted by the fact that we have decided to move. Moves are always a reason to clean out the junk, right? Cleaning out junk has also been accompanied by a long list of projects that need taken care of so that the house will be attractive to buyers.
Billy Bob is a tired old man after all that, so the writing has been on the back burner for the past four months. I apologize for that. I know a lot of you have been waiting to see what happens to our young band geek during the rest of the Thanksgiving weekend. Fear not. I have Saturday and Sunday's entries (November 30 & December 1) almost ready to upload. Expect them later this week before I go running off house-hunting.
Despite the obstacles, I've managed to put together another chapter of Band Geek Diary and get our young lovers through the day after Thanksgiving. One of my obstacles was my muse, who kept inspiring me with things that will happen later in the story. Oh well, when the muse strikes you write what she gives you - even if it's out of sequence. The good news is that several later chapters are well under way and may be easier to finish up now that all these parts have been sketched out.
I'll be uploading Chapter 8 - November 30 once I finish up the last bit of editing.
Thanks for your patience.
I'm sorry for my unexplained absence. Nothing bad was going on, but there were lots of interruptions - people visiting, a construction project and some travel - and I didn't manage to get back to working on Band Geek Diary until this past weekend. Never fear. I'll soon be posting the chapter that deals with events on Thanksgiving Day.
I love hearing from readers. I really do. You can even tell me exactly what's wrong with my story or why you don't like it, just so long as you stay respectful. That hasn't been a problem, though. Everyone who's taken time to write has been, for the most part, very nice to me about my stories.
One thing that I do want to comment about, though: Some of the suggestions I've gotten about which direction Band Geek Diary should go are just bizarre. Let me explain. The story is about a first romance between two freshmen in High School, two kids who are trying to work out what love and sex is all about for them. I threw in one 'kinky' twist - the girlfriend's mother is teaching the boyfriend how to be a good lover for her daughter. Now I have readers suggesting various ways to turn this into an orgy involving all the female members of the marching band, get a few of them pregnant and then sit back and watch all the girls go lesbian.
It ain't gonna happen that way, folks. It's my story and I know which way it's going and where I want it to end up, so NO pregnancies and NO orgies.
The Band Parents Universe is an open universe, and you're all welcome to put your own stories into it, with whatever action you want between band parents and high school band members. If you want an orgy in the back of the bus on the way home from a marching band competition, or if you want a tuba player to get one or more of the moms pregnant, or if you want all the flute players to be lesbians, more power to you. I'm not going to write any of that for you. You'll have to write it yourself.
I just uploaded chapter five of Band Geek Diary for the powers that be to deal with. Look for it very soon. In these entries, which cover November 15 - 17, our young hero gets to play with his girlfriend after getting lessons last weekend from her mother. Follow along as he learns how her body responds to his touch and how her touch makes him respond. She's full of little surprises.
