Did you enjoy RSI chapter 7?

Posted at

I’ve been receiving very polarizing feedback for chapter 7. One group said this chapter is not up to my usual standard.

Whereas another group said Chapter 7 is the best chapter yet.

(Contrast that to Chapter 6, which received nothing but high praises).

Interestingly, apart from Chapter 1, Chapter 7 is the only chapter that didn’t have a sex scene.

Another interesting thing I’ve noticed is readers enjoy the characters’ development a lot, perhaps much more than the other parts of the story.

I’ve put a lot of thought into each chapter, but never imagine what people liked the most were the character developments.

One thing I like to do is to include psychological explanations to the story. I use Ezra to explain what’s going on with Ken and how Ken can learn to deal with his issues like social anxiety, depression, fear of intimacy, shyness etc.

Some readers told me that they treat RSI like a manual. One comment went:

“This series is better than most sex ed courses. Should be mandatory reading for teens lol”.”

While these did stroke my ego, please do your own research and/or seek proper medical advice if you’re facing similar issues as Ken. I’m not stating this disclaimer to protect myself, but rather to make sure you don’t trust everything you read on the internet, especially from erotica.

I don’t have a formal education in psychology but it’s a deep interest of mine. (Though sometimes, like Ezra, I like to play therapist even though I’m not certified.). I’m guessing that many of my readers also enjoy the psychological aspect of the story.

Let me know your thoughts regarding the psychological aspect. Too much? Want more? Just the right amount? Love it? Hate it? Could do without it?

Anyhow, let me know your thoughts on Chapter 7, including specific things you like and dislike about it. Specific feedback is always useful for me to improve as a writer. Commenting “best story ever” may stroke my ego a little (tch, okay, fine, I admit it strokes quite a bit), but it doesn’t tell me what exactly you like about it.

But whether you love or hate Chapter 7, I’ll try to do better for future chapters.

P.S. If you’ve been enjoying RSI, I’d love your feedback on it.

P.P.S If you haven’t done it yet, it would mean a lot to me if you left a vote on RSI to tell me how I’ve been doing. They informed me how much time and effort I should spend on RSI. Life is too short to continue stories people are not interested in.

New RSI Chapter Out! (Plus important note - Read this first)

Read this before reading chapter 7 - don’t worry, no spoilers.

Important Note:

Note: I’ve previously mentioned the college sorority “La Pute” in Chapter 3. But I’ve decided to retcon (retrospectively revised) to reintroduce La Pute again in this chapter since I’ve not talked about it since. If you can’t remember what La Pute is, it’s all good. I’ll explain it in this chapter.

Image of Skimpy Romper

One of the characters in this chapter will be wearing a romper. It’s like a dress but with shorts instead of a skirt at the bottom. If you can’t visualize how a romper looks like after reading chapter 7, here are a few images for your imagination:

100,000 Words Milestone

Even though RSI currently only has seven chapters, it’s already crossed 100k words!

100,000 words might not be a lot compared to those stories with millions of words, but:

(a) This is the first story I’ve published online

(b) Most published fiction novels have an average of 70-90k words. So RSI is already the length of a novel

(c) Despite being my first published story, the amount of support I’ve been getting is incredible.

It has been an interesting journey transitioning from merely a reader online to a writer. A big thank you to readers who have supported me and constantly told me you want to read more.

Also, special thanks to the editors who helped make RSI better than I could alone.

Teaser to Chapter 7 (No spoiler)

This chapter features more character development from Ken and more backstory of various characters. It answers some questions readers have been asking and “close the loop” on some of the things I’ve brought up previously.

Truth be told, I wasn’t satisfied with how the chapter turned out. The writing seems subpar compared to the earlier chapters. The prose felt stiff and doesn’t flow as well as before. I pride myself on making my stories as easy to read as possible, so I was very reluctant to publish Chapter 7.

I’ve also introduced new characters and I had spent a lot of time trying to figure out their unique personalities without making them sound like cardboard characters. I like to think that dialogues are one of my strengths as a writer, but the dialogues in this chapter still feel a little off (despite countless of revisions).

But with readers bombarding me for updates, I decided to go ahead and publish this new chapter despite not being fully satisfied with it. Maybe I will go back and edit this chapter again when I’m in a better writing mood.

Still, I hope you enjoy it. Let me know how I did in this chapter.

Reasons for the delay

Lastly, in case you haven’t read my previous post, there were several reasons for the long delay in this chapter:

(1) The last quarter of the year tend to be my busiest in work

(2) Plus, I was sick for a couple of weeks, so I couldn’t focus on writing.

(3) As I’ve mentioned above, I felt the writing was subpar, so I kept editing it.

Usually, I’d take around 10-20+ rounds of revision/edits after the 1st draft, though this time, I went through at least 20-30+ revisions, not counting the additional revisions I made after it went through the editors.

This new chapter has 22k words, so it takes at least an hour to read through it. Now multiply that by 20 times, excluding the time spent actually editing.

That’s the amount of editing that goes into each chapter!

(4) It took me a long time trying to figure out the personalities of the new characters.

Whenever possible, I try not to have too many major characters in my stories, as it can be difficult to keep track of them after a while. So I try to make each character as distinct as possible, coming back with their unique voice, character traits, and background.

But doing it can take a lot of effort. Besides brainstorming their character information, I also need to consider how their personalities would play a part in the story.

I’m interested to hear what you think of the new characters in this chapter.

Poll Results

I’m severely behind in posting the poll results. But if you haven’t answered the poll questions, feel free to send it in (see my earlier blog post).

Anyhow, please let me know what you think of the new chapter.

Enjoy!

P.S. If you haven’t done it yet, it would mean a lot to me if you left a vote and feedback on RSI to tell me how I’ve been doing and whether you want to read more. They will inform me how much I should invest in this story.

Feel free to give me your honest opinions. If you think that my time should be better spent doing else instead of continuing this story, I won’t be offended (Though I might cry a little. Just a little.)

RSI update: Chapter 7 is with my editors

Assuming there aren't too many changes, the new chapter should be out in a few days, if not in a week (hopefully).

Writing For Yourself vs Writing for Others + Chapter Update

Posted at Updated:

Many erotica writers write stories that fulfill their own fantasy, imagination, and kink.

They write what they like or whatever exciting comes to mind, and the act of writing stories itself gives them great satisfaction.

Many of these sex stories tend to have a couple of missing elements that traditional stories like published novels have:

- Conflict, motivation and goals

- Unique and interesting personalities

- Structure and story beat

- Plot coherence and continuity

- Engaging dialogues

- Proper Scene Setting

- Resolutions

- Compelling and consistent voice

- Prose and story flow

I’m not here to judge. I’m an advocate for writing in general, and if writing for yourself is satisfying, by all means. Knock yourself out (and rub one or two out while you’re at it).

Hey, if you want to write about how a shy nerd finally get together with a hot cheerleader with DD-cup tits, who is also bisexual and doesn’t mind sharing him with the rest of her squad, even help seducing her busty teammates for him, go ahead. Have fun while ya at it.

Forget all about what makes a story a story and just write what pleases you.

Even if your story didn’t get a good score or if you receive negative feedback, just ignore them. After all, you’re writing for yourself.

But writing for others in mind requires more discipline and focus. It’s not just about satisfying yourself, but for others too.

Considering that there are thousands of stories online, all it takes is for the story to be missing a couple of elements or get a little boring while you set the scene, and the reader exits the page immediately.

Oftentimes, even if the first few sentences or paragraph is not immediately engaging, the reader is gone. And never to return again. So there’s also the onus for the writer to suck the readers in immediately and get their interest and commitment before you lose them for good.

That’s what makes writing, for me at least, difficult. It’s also the reason why I take so long to write (that, and my full-time job is especially busy in the last quarter of the year.)

Writing RSI can seem like tough work at times, especially writing in Ken’s voice. It’s not just about writing whatever comes to mind when inspiration strikes. I need to be Ken to write like Ken. I need to make sure each sentence is writing in the best possible way while still including different story elements and keeping everything coherent.

Perhaps I’m thinking too much. Though I’m glad to receive the numerous acknowledgment and encouragement from readers. It seems that many readers have been enjoying RSI and want me to continue. So I seem to be doing something right.

Story Update

To those who have been sending me messages and asking me for chapter updates, yes, I’m alive (though I was sick for a few weeks), and yes and still working on RSI.

My work is usually the busiest in the last quarter of the year until the mid of Jan (Any guess what I’m working as?) I should have more time to work on RSI soon, hopefully with more consistent posting.

I’m actually done with the first draft of the next chapter. Right now I’m in the midst of editing it before I hand it over to the editors.

The editing process has been really slow and somewhat torturous. I know what I want to write, but the prose hasn’t been as good as I wanted it to be. At times I had the desire to just publish the not-so-perfect chapter, but then it wouldn’t do the story and the readers justice.

I want you all to know that I’m committed to finishing RSI. At least until the end of Book 1, unless readers stop liking it. (This is why your votes on the story is so important to me.)

I’ve planned for at least three books for RSI. The current Book 1 is focused on Ken’s “hero’s journey” or “origin story) to becoming a sex instructor, along with his growing relationships with the girls.

Book 2 will focus on Ken dealing with his new reputation as a sex instructor, as well as the new/current relationships he has been developing. There will also be more features of Tony and Ken’s school life, which up until now, haven’t been featured much. Book 2 is going to have a lot more sexy scenes with many different girls as Ken learns what it means to be non-monogamous. I’m rather excited to start Book 2, although whether or not I actually write it will depend on readers’ feedback.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. There are still a lot of stories left to tell in Book 1.

In the meantime, your patience and support are much appreciated.

P.S. If you've been enjoying RSI but have not left a vote on RSI, kindly leave a vote. That would mean a lot to me. Thanks!

It’s always interesting for me to hear readers’ opinions of different girls. Some have given me new perspectives I’ve not considered before.

By the way, if you have not answered the poll questions yet, there’s still time to do so.

Alternatively, you can go to the comment section of RSI and let me know your thoughts.
