More people need training on the proper way to give feedback. I was taught that you "give praise in public and criticism in private." This helps boost egos and images publicly, while ensuring that the recipient receives the proper guidance on improving his/her work.
Too often, on this site, I have received criticism in the comments section of my story (public), while getting positive feedback to my email box (private). It's backwards. The encouragement has helped me to continue my story. The criticism has made me want to conclude the story as quickly as possible, or even give up.
I'm soldiering on, trying to bring New Beginning to a logical stopping point. But it has become harder to build the story, especially when people tell me the protagonist is an asshole, without telling me why.
Greetings Xalir fans. I have just submitted the first three chapters of Book 4 of Xalir's "My Journey" series for publication. A word of warning, the book was not completed by Xalir and he did not leave any notes with which to write an ending. The story will end abruptly in chapter 12, with several unfinished threads. I will submit the remaining chapters, a few at a time, as I complete them in the next few weeks.
It is a fun read and working through reminded me that we lost a very talented writer. Enjoy the story.
My last two blog entries have not made it to the SOL home page stream. I suspect that is because they contained links to surveys on survey monkey. If you want an update on New Beginning and want to help with reader preferences, access my blog and take my two short surveys.
Thanks
BnM
Chapter 14 is ready for release. I plan to publish tomorrow (4/19).
Thank you to the handful of people who responded to my first survey. If you haven't already taken it, here is the link.
Survey 1
Based on the feedback so far, here are the results:
1. People have a slight preference for first person narratives, followed by third person narrative, then third person objective
2. People prefer stories with a healthy mix of dialogue and narrative. A few people prefer dialogue driven stories. No one preferred narrative only stories.
3. There was no obvious preference of strong story at the expense of grammar and writing quality. My conclusion, people want a good story and will tolerate some loss in quality and grammar, but not too much.
I realized I wanted a little more information, so I created a separate, two question survey. It asks for guidance on story releases and can be found here:
Survey 2
Thank you for reading. Send me an e-mail or leave a comment and let me know how you like the direction of New Beginning.
Cheers,
BnM
Hi SOL readers,
I have created a survey on survey monkey (link below) to learn more about reader preferences. It's a short, three question survey that should take less than a minute to complete. Please navigate over there and help me learn about your reading preferences.
Once I get a few dozen responses, I'll share the results here. Thanks for your help.
