This is another Western. This is the blurb:
In 1870, Bob Harris buys a mule. He is a bounty hunter, and the mule replaces his horse. This is a somewhat tongue-in-cheek story, so don't take it too seriously. The story was suggested by a great friend of mine until she died, Ada, a mule. The story is short, but I had fun with it. Five chapters.
The low response from my latest story has prompted me to shift back to a Western for my next one. This may be more of a historical story than a conventional western, but here it is. It's only 8 chapters long. This is the blurb:
The real story of Orville Summinski begins in the California gold fields, but does not stay there for long. His family moves to Los Angeles and he winds up in the Mexican beer business. Through a mixture of luck and skill, he gains the support of his Mexican employer, marries a Mexican heiress, and becomes a Mexican hidalgo. How's that for a boy born in the slums of New York City? 8 Chapters.
I'll start posting it on 2017/12/19. Still no voting.
Well, it looks like this story is a real bust compared to my other efforts. So far, there are barely over 500 downloads, and that is a drop in the bucket as compared to my other stories. Nevertheless, I am going to stick with it to the bitter end--so there! LOL
I do want to thank the people who have given the story a chance. I like it, but I suppose that the lack of sex and the horror nature are two strikes against it. Maybe people will like my next effort better. I hope so.
This is my new story starting on Tuesday, 11/07/17. I decided to call it a horror story "just for the Hell of it." Though it might be called science fiction story of the alien invasion type, or maybe an action/adventure story. Anyway, here is the blurb. I hope people enjoy it. By the way, I am not allowing voting on this story for now. Please comment on the story instead. That capability will be opened as soon as I can manage it. Here is the blurb:
This is an old time horror story in the spirit of "Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man," etc. A pair of Sioux shaman try to drive the Whites out of the sacred Black Hills by unleashing demons and monsters from Sioux mythology. They are more successful than they had dreamed. This is the story of the attempt to rid the world of a rash of blood-thirsty demons. Can they do it? 12 chapters. Minimal sex.
I am about ready to cancel voting on this story. I am sick and tired of the way Lazeez manipulates scores. I know that it is his site and he can do anything he wishes, but I know from the reaction from readers that the story is better than his score indicates.
I know all of the bullshit about how scoring is for readers, not writers, but this may be the last push I need. I find the score insulting to the point of almost giving up on SOL, much as I appreciate the job Lazeez does on the other parts of it, but I have been insulted by the scoring about as long as I can take.
It looks to me like the "1" voters have moved up to "5" or "6" to escape the automatic rejection of their votes, but I have not seen any real change in the adjusted vote on my stories except that they have drifted down from the range of 7.5 to the upper 6s all because of Lazeez's adjustments. Therefore, if the scores on my stories don't start to rise over the next month or so, I will block voting. How can a story with a majority of votes being "8" and up, warrant a rating in the upper 6s?
Yeah, I know, that means that the trolls have won, but my ulcer cannot take much more of this foolishness!
