I'm releasing chapter 76 of Too Much Love a day early this week because my plan for tomorrow is to get up and get on line to vote first thing tomorrow. New York City's early voting has been incredibly successful and our election board depressingly incompetent. As a result, it's been insanely long lines every day since early voting started.
If you're an American and eligible to vote, but haven't yet, please get out there and do it this year - even if you're planning to vote for the other guy.
Due to RL scheduling issues, chapter 75 of Too Much Love and chapter 1 of Jester's Ransom are going out today instead of tomorrow. They're in the submission queue now.
As I planned out the events of Too Much Love going forward, I realized I had an opportunity to do one long follow-on section with Nick that would take up all of Chapter 76.
Then, I reorganized the order of things and realized I would be ending Chapter 75 with a scene also from Nick's perspective. I don't think I've ended a chapter with one perspective and stayed on that perspective anywhere in TML. Also, chapter 75 was going to be long, so I tacked Nick's scene onto the beginning of his follow-on in chapter 76.
Sixty-two pages into that follow-on, I have realized that Nick's follow-on is really too long for a single chapter. So, it will actually span across chapters 76 and 77, immediately breaking my "no chapter changes without a perspective shift" rule. Chapter 77 may be all one section like 76 or it might have a relatively short section after that putting a coda on Sunday, September 14, 2015.
Either way, I think this unbroken block is meant to signal that we're going to be seeing a lot more scenes where Nick is either the viewpoint character or the center of the action going forward. We'll see how that works. I still have a ton of non-Nick threads to advance and resolve.
Chapter 75 of Too Much Love and Chapter 1 of Jester's Ransom should be out tomorrow.
After a little more than a week of rereading, indexing, and cross-referencing Too Much Love, I'm back to writing forward. Chapter 75 required some major surgery to be consistent with Cricket's backstory, but I think it's stronger now.
Chapter 76 will probably be a long follow-shot on Nick - a whole chapter with only one section that takes him from New Orleans to Europe and back to New York, sweeping up loose threads wherever he goes.
Chapter 1 of Jester's Ransom is scheduled to be released this coming Thursday along with chapter 75 of Too Much Love.
After a ten-day reread and edit, I just uploaded modified versions of 31 out of Too Much Love's 73 chapters. Most of these are to correct discontinuities with ages, dates, and names.
I triple checked my uploads, but mistakes may have still gotten through. If you find that a chapter is missing, duplicated, or out of order, please let me know.
Open issues:
* Miller County is probably referred to as Orchard County at least once.
* 85 Jay Street is probably still called 85 Oak Street in places.
* Some content is still missing from the continuity guide (ie no Giovanni xref from 53.6)
Resolved issues:
Chapter 18: Tanvi's last name is Agnihotri, not Chopra.
Chapter 19: Threnody is twenty-five, not twenty-eight.
Chapter 21: Nick and Arwen's parents made them stop sleeping in the same bed when they were twelve, not when they were eight.
Chapter 22: Added a bit about Nick owing Max for a couple of epic pranks.
Chapter 24: Tucker is twelve, not "nearly eleven." Anne Parrish Bispo is 31, not 29. Arwen was seventeen when she first had sex with Lev, not sixteen.
Chapter 25: Tucker is a twelve year-old about to start eighth grade, not a nine year-old about to start the fifth grade. He's been a Boy Scout, not just a Cub Scout.
Chapter 26: Inez was twenty at Pilar's quincenera, not eighteen.
Chapter 37: Guy Dickinson is now Gary Dickinson.
Chapter 38: Marcus->Malcolm
Chapter 40: Gianni will be five years old in a month.
Chapter 41: Pilar makes clear that her concern about turning thirty is because she's about to be twenty-six.
Chapter 42: Anne's brother-in-law is "Mick."
Chapter 43: Shelby came to Brownfield Mills at fifteen and lived there for three years. Tony Campanelli threatened to kill Max's father "like ten years ago." Arwen telling Nick she slept with Dennis is modified for timing.
Chapter 44: Shelby and Alexis have known each other for three years.
Chapter 46: Threnody is born in 1989, Verity "almost ten years later." Fixed the Jesse/Threnody backstory so that Gianni was conceived when Threnody was eighteen and Jesse "fifteen or sixteen."
Chapter 47: Tucker is twelve. Fixed some verbiage about the trip to Hamilton.
Chapter 48: Did a hard date shift about Hamilton.
Chapter 50: Hamilton date fix. Changed Malcolm's backstory to match what comes later.
Chapter 51: Hank's brother is Mick, not Nick.
Chapter 53: Fixed Hamilton date.
Chapter 57: Fixed date of Kiki's return to Japan.
Chapter 58: Retconned Jake's backstory.
Chapter 59: Replaced "Caius" with "Kaius" repeatedly. Lara Laird's husband is George, not Carl.
Chapter 60: Replaced "Caius" with "Kaius" repeatedly. Lara Laird's husband is George, not Harry.
Chapter 64: Restored the current patriarch's name to Obadiah or Obie where appropriate.
Chapter 66: Felicity Ferrari-Stone is back to being Felicity, not Tiffany
Chapter 67: Consolidated Tahira/Zahira into a single name (Tahira.)
Chapter 68: Obadiah becomes Obadiah again.
Chapter 69: Re-added some dropped words in 69.2. Completely reworked Arwen's backstory to fix the how and when of other events, made major changes to all of 69.3 (posted 9-Oct.)
Chapter 71: Replaced "running around the city with an escort" to "running around the city without an escort." Walt wasn't suggesting Max hire a hooker. Replaced "progeny insurance" with "succession insurance" to better represent Nick's purpose.
Chapter 72: Replaced "William" with "Obadiah" or "Obie" in many places. Replaced six instances of "85 Oak" with "85 Jay." Adjusted Monroe and Dietrich's departure date to Wednesday in order to line up with the other action. Also, restored Cricket's gap year before Yale.
