Child Magus Posting

Finally, after so many months of fighting with it, I have finished chapter 30! Yeah, I know, it sounds so lame, but there's more. I've also finished the rest of Child Magus.

I'll repeat that for anyone who doesn't read things twice.

I've finished Child Magus.

Now you're asking, "Well? Where the hell is it?!?"

I've sent the last chapters to my editors. I know, I know, it's about damned time. In the mean time, I've sent in chapters 27 thru 29 for posting. They should be up soon. ;D

In the mean time, I've begun work on the Book III (title still pending). Here's the description:

"Relationships are already complicated enough, especially if you've never been in one before and are used to only worrying about yourself, but Seth is doing the best he can. On top of all the different issues he faces with each of the women he's bound to, Seth is confronted by the local Sheriff Magus about the Lockdown."

I can only hope not to run into the same kinds of problems I did with Child Magus, but I can't make any guarantees. At the moment, I've got a running outline that will guide me through the majority of the story. I should also point out that this is where things really start to deviate from my original idea of following Master PC The Protector in a parallel storyline. While it's true that New Magus was parallel to Part one of Protector and Child Magus was parallel to part two, Book III will not follow this pattern. It can't. Anyone who's read Protector will notice that part three only consists of part of a day, some new powers for Ral, and his frustrations with the Program, before getting all of his girls ready to go meet The Users. That's it! It's not much for a part, now that I look at it so analytically, so I'm going to move forward. That means, Book III will be more like a combination of parts three and four of Protector.

One other thing I've been trying to decide for a while now is whether to write Book III and post chapters as they're available or to write the whole thing and post it all at once, so it's more like publishing a book. In fact, I'd like some feedback on this idea. Let me know what you think. I'll make my decision by the end of January.

Cast of Characters

I received a suggestion on how to handle the requested cast of characters. I don't have the notes right here in front of me, but the idea was to post a "pre-chapter" with info on all recurring characters along with not only physical statistics, but short descriptions of what happened with them in the previous books. Also, when I'm about to introduce any new characters, I'll add the physical bio to the beginning of the chapter they're about to appear in. I only have one small problem with the physical bios... what to leave out!?!

I left out a few of the attributes for various reasons, either because they were for men (and Jordan is a woman), because in this context they wouldn't make sense, or becasue the attributes had to do with the program (my db program, not master pc) but not the story. However, this still gives everyone an idea of what I've included. This also lacks any general notes about the the character, or a summary of what this character has done in the stories thus far. Like with my request for suggestions between posting chapters at a time or all-at-once for Book III, I'll ask what everyone thinks I should keep and what to ditch for the Character Bios.

In the mean time, it shouldn't be too long before I post the last chapters for Child Magus.

Computer Failure Remedied

First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who made donations. I've ordered the board and should be receiving it soon, which means I'll soon be back up and running - and writing.

As an update, I have finished three more chapters and am currently working on another (I'm hand-writing it for the time being - until I can transpose it to the computer). If all goes well with the computer, I should have the rest of the story finished written, edited, and posted some time during the up-coming holidays.

There was such a wonderful response to help take care of my computer woes that I would like to ask if anyone has an old laptop computer they're not using? This isn't for me, but my mother. Not long before my computer died, my mother's computer went down too. My Uncle had a really old desktop computer that he wasn't using, so we brought that home and I reloaded Windows on it. However, the computer started locking up -- A LOT. We were sure that was the reason he had stopped using it too. I looked inside and realized that it didn't have enough airflow to keep it from overheating, and the case wasn't designed to allow the installation of more fans than what it came with (A Compaq that original came with Windows ME!). Unfortunately, the system is so old there's nothing we can do with it. We've talked about what to do to replace it, or to get the first system fixed, but my mom insisted that it would be too much of a hassle and said she'd be happier with a laptop. However, knowing we can't afford that either, we've since let the subject drop. I thought if I could find a laptop for her that no one's using, it would cheer her up (she's been depressed since her computer died). All she really does on a computer is play card games and occasionally print out documents she needs for driving school buses. If anyone has anything like that and would like to donate it, I would be grateful. Simply contact me with the details.

Recent emails:

I received a request for a 'cast of characters' for my Sex Magus series.

To be honest, I'm not sure how to implement this. I've read several stories that had a list of characters and their general relationships with certain main characters at the beginning of the story, but to me that spoils what's going to happen in the story. I've even read books that had a list of characters at the end, as an index. To me, that was a lot better because it didn't spoil anything in the story for me, since it wasn't at the start, and it was there if I needed a reminder of who was who - and that would only happen if there were a lot of characters (like twenty or more main characters).

I like the index idea, but I've also considered making the cast list a separate story, with each character bio as an individual chapter. Each of the Bios could be updated according to what happens to those characters in each story (with spoiler alerts for those worried about that), and I could continue to add new bios as I release new stories. Overall, I think my biggest issue with making the cast list an index at the end of each story is what to EXCLUDE, not to mention the index wouldn't be available until the story was complete. :(

Okay everyone, I got together with another tech who had replacement processors, but it turned out to NOT be the processor. We tried replacing the memory, the power, everything but the mainboard (because he didn't have any of those). We concluded that the mainboard was the issue.

Now, seeing that I put this system together over four years ago, I didn't think I'd find the same board again. I verified that the board has been discontinued (an ASUS P5KPL-AM). However, having looked up the specs, I've found a comparable board available on ebay.

I do apologize to everyone for the delays. Unfortunatly, the processor on my home computer recently died. The whole thing powers up but it will not boot or allow me access to the bios. For those who know computers and might offer suggestions as to what I might do, I've already talked to several computer experts nearby and they've all come to the same conclusion. Unfortunately, since I'm not working again, getting the money for the processor isn't possible at this time. Once I've found work again, getting my computer up and running is the first thing on my to do list (I really miss my computer!).

I must sound like a broken record player, but I've lost internet at home again and have only recently had the opportunity to post this blog to let everyone know that I am putting the finishing touchest on the last chapters. My sister has been kind enough to allow me to borrow her laptop to check my email and make this post. How much longer I'll have even this access is yet to be seen. There's talk of getting internet at home yet again, but I'm not going to count on it.

I hope everyone's summer was good and I'll post again as soon as possible with the last chapters.
