The story is about John Abrams finding his place in the new world he helped bring into existence and using his authority to bring about a risky resolution to the threat posed by the alien Assemblage. Not only do they have to find a way of disabling the master artificial intelligence in control of the Earth, but they also have to deal with the worse threat approaching from interstellar space.
