For the next few days I may have very little time to be online or even at the computer.
I just got the call that I've been expecting and dreading for several days. I will have no more watches to sit at the hospital, hopefully for a long time. However, now I and other friends have to notify people, make arrangements and handle other duties involved in the passing of an old friend.
He survived the bombing of London, the trip across the Atlantic while the ship he was on ran from a U-boat and resettlement in a new country. He lived after being run over by a horse and wagon when he was only 14, survived Korea at eighteen, even the flaming crash of an aircraft that was shot down at sea. He lived through marriage, divorce, and multiple lady friends. But at the age of 75, complications brought on by having his lung punctured by a broken rib during a fall were just too much for him to handle.
So long old buddy, may you rest in peace.
Well, I'm writing again. The medications I've been taking have made that relatively impossible until now.
Please be patient just a while more and I'll be posting again - I hope.

I know I've been fairly quiet this month, but I've had a reason. I had a small operation on my back to attempt to relieve the pain in my back and legs as well as to restore function to my right leg. Between the pain killers that I'm taking and the lack of mobility and function that I've had, it's a surprise that I've responded to anyone about anything. I probably wouldn't find it so dang frustrating if I didn't have brief periods of complete pain free lucidity that make the dopey periods seem even worse.
I actually had a period this morning that lasted almost an hour when I did a bit of writing. That is exceptional, especially since I feel fairly lucid right now.
WOW, 2 lucid periods in one day, that's a first in the last 2 or 3 months. Here's hoping the improvement continues.

A few weeks ago it snowed in Victoria, which is where I live. Enough snow to cover the streets is a rather rare happening here and drivers are not at their best because they're unaccustomed to it. Unfortunately I had to go out and was trying to cross a street - in the crosswalk. Since it was slippery and since I use a cane, I was moving slowly. An idiot in a 4-wheel drive came around a corner too fast and although he tried to stop, I could see he was going to be unable to do so. I tried to leap out of the way, but fell quite heavily. Normally, I suffer from spinal stenosis as well as osteoarthritis and sciatica, but it was aggravated by the fall and my back was quite badly injured.
From the time I returned home I have been unable to do much more than lie abed and take painkillers while my back very, very slowly improves. I have been unable to concentrate on writing, in fact I'm unsure if even this account will make much sense, but I'll be back when I can
