Devan and Danica Ardane are two very different sisters, both having chosen the study of the Mystic Arts as the means to escape from the small town of their birth and make their own path in the world. This series will follow them as they come of age, and grow in power. Long periods of time may pass between stories in this series. Each story is self contained, but there is a timeline ( as listed in the sequence of the stories )
Devan Ardane is struggling to decide what direction her life should take, now that she has mastered all she can learn of magic in the small town of her birth. Another decision is much easier to make, as she pursues a young man named Serhan that has struck her fancy. All the while, a murderer is creeping about the nearby area, raping and murdering young women.
Devan arrives in Destindale, but things aren't going as she planned. Taking a job with an herbalist named Lorelle to save her coin, she finds that the handsome merchants passing through the area are a welcome distraction as she tries to get into one of the two magic schools. When the exciteable Kampar, Darmok Tinkettle, and the scarred warrior Matusen enter the picture, Devan learns a lesson and finds a solution.
Danica has always felt as though she lived her life in her sister's shadow. She struggles with her magic, as a student with a grudge against her, and Devan, plots revenge. Along the way, Danica discovers the wonders of sex for the first time, though darker discoveries await her as well. (mf=16-17 yrs.)
Devan and Lauren, student and teacher, are the only two females in a school dominated by men who don't believe women have any business studying magic. When a rash of magic thefts prompt the closing of the campus, Devan loses her outlet for sexual energy with merchants passing through. Lauren would be more than happy to fill that void, but has no idea how Devan will react.
Drought and crop blight have dampened the spirits and the hopes of Danica's community. It's going to be a long, hard winter, and it seems the Harvest Festival won't happen this year. Her teacher in the mystic arts reveals that there's far more to the festival than most know, and then she experiences the truth first hand. All the while, she has to struggle with her inability to tell her beloved that she's barren.
