Cold War and before contains five stories. It starts on our timeline in World War II (Mrs Henderson's Limp, Colette) and then branches into a new Cold War (Excerpts from Col's Diaries, Through my Eyes, Again.). Whilst WW2 espionage is the initial setting, the latter books are set in an alternate Cold War and chronicle the events that happen to a defector from communist East Germany, her child and a very strange friend. One of the books (Colette) won Editors' Choice in the Bookshelf 2023 writing awards and the fifth book (Through different Eyes) is a finalist in the 2023 PageTurner awards.
