Chapter 5

He looked at me suspiciously for a long moment. Susan was beside me and she said, "I am Susan Thorpe, daughter of Senior Stephanie Thorpe. I bring you greetings on behalf of my mother and the Lu's. I am Handor's mate."

That got his attention. He said, "Susan Thorpe was lost with an exploring expedition to the west over three years ago."

"That is correct. I managed to return with my mates, Handor and Katina, which is why we are not remaining at Lu."

He said, "No, that wouldn't be allowed there. Come, we will go to my village. It's close."

When we arrived, he brought us to the main hut at the center of the village's open center. "This is my home. You are welcome guests here. I am Charlie and head man of this village."

Susan introduced Katina and me. I introduced my squad leaders and assistant, Jamal. A small friendly crowd had gathered and Charlie divided us out to the homes of various men and women there.

Hazel and Jackson, Margie, and Sharna, were to go to a nearby homes. Susan, Katina, and I would stay with Charlie. The rest of our group was spread out through the village. Charlie and his associates were hanging around the central open area and the three of us joined them as we waited for supper to be readied. We had been told that they were having a small feast for two young people who were mating and everyone was invited.

Susan and I talked with Charlie and a couple of other men with Katina an avid listener. While they were comfortable with women in charge from outside, they didn't seem to provide for that in their culture, at least, not in this village. I watched the mating ceremony and the words and actions put the woman in a subservient role to the man. We were directed to the major city of the Virginians and would go there tomorrow.

That night, the girls and I made soft love and then pillow talked in whispers. Katina had noticed the same thing that I had and commented upon it to Susan. She hadn't really noticed the different level for women. Katina, on the other hand, would since she was newly come to equality.

We left in the morning for Rich City, the major city of the Virginians. We followed the directions until we reached its outskirts in the early afternoon. An armed party was waiting for us and escorted us to the Primary.

I jumped in, "We are not Lu's. We are Sin Loos, a different nation, from a different area. Our Charges sent us on an exploring expedition. I am Handor and I am leader. Jamal is my assistant. There are no women who are in charge of our Brigade."

A man about the age of my father or a little older said, "I am told this was a party of Lu's."

I said, "No. While there are two former Lu's in my Brigade, we left the Lu's territory as a party of Sin Loos. That is how we entered their territory, too.

"The Sin Loos nation is located on the other side of the mountains many days march to the west. The Sin Loos nation is ruled by men elected from our number. My father is one of the three Charges and assigned this expedition to me.

"We are searching for an ocean. We understand it is a large active lake with water that is salty. We don't know if such exists but are charged with reaching it or the eastern extremity of these lands."

The man said, "I am Lunsford, the Primary of the Virginians. We no longer allow Lu parties to enter our territory freely. Handor, come over here and tell me more about the Sin Loos and how they are governed. It appears that we have a new group in our area."

I looked around for a bench or chair of some type. I saw none and said, "Sue, be a bench." I pointed just behind me. Sue went to her hands and knees behind me and I sat upon her hips gently though I didn't show that gentleness to the Virginians. Susan let a huff escape her lips from my weight supposedly settling on her body. I said, "There. Primary Lunsford, we come from the other side of the mountains."

"Just call me Primary."

"Yes, Primary. As I said, we come from the other side of the mountains. We have no designs upon this area. It's too far from us. We do have a desire to know the land and the people who inhabit it. My brigade is but one party sent out to explore in different directions with varying directives. My directive was to explore the unknown area east beyond the mountains and determine if such a thing as an ocean exits. We ran into the Lu's and brought two with us to replace servant women who had died on the trail. I don't think the Lu's like us very much though they kept their promise to release us after I killed Emily in hand-to-hand combat to obtain safe passage through their lands."

That statement created a buzz. Apparently, they knew of Emily. The atmosphere began to be friendlier after that.

Primary said, "Come forward and join us at the table, Master Handor."

"Thank you, Primary." Looking down at Sue, I winked, and said sternly, "Go back and stand with Ti and await my commands."

She said, "Yes, Master." She rose up and went back to stand with Ti. She whispered to her very quickly. I went over to the Primary's table and sat down at a chair offered to me. I let my weight settle resting my back from having tried to keep from paining Susan too much with the show. I had a feeling that the policies had changed and that change was not in favor of women.

Primary said, "You seem to have a number of women."

I looked at him and smiled slowly, "I am a young man but, as a brigade leader, it is my duty to bring women for my men to share. I brought two favorites for my own use. The rest of my women are for the purpose of sharing their bodies with my men. The extra women help keep my men happy in their service to me on this expedition. Sue has only been with me just more than a year, but has learned to give good and faithful service to me. She was formerly a Lu though she didn't want to stay with the Lu's. She pleases. Anyway, without Emily, they would not have been able to stop us though we would have suffered casualties.

"What of your women, Primary? We had thought Virginians practiced equality but it seems you have cured that fault and returned women to their natural state of service."

I waited to hear what he would say. He said, "Things have changed for the Virginians. My men and I have taken over and, as you say, restored relations to bier rightful balance.

"We have two who haven't learned and shall be punished this afternoon. At least one of them shall die." He raised his voice, "Bring the horses and the prisoners."

Men brought in two items that were similar to sawhorses that carpenters used. One was high and came to my shoulders. I noticed that its top was metal and was a sharpened blade. The other was a standard height and had two thick long pegs sticking up in the middle. I had a bad feeling about this. My feelings were confirmed when two women were brought in leaking cum down their thighs and wearing a noticeable set of bruises each.

I said, "Primary, my women should see this to help them understand the consequences of disobedience. I will go arrange them to view and return, if I may." He nodded and I rose from the chair and went over to the group.

Once there, I said, "This will not be pretty. All women must stand in front. No one says anything or looks away. It will sicken you but we must survive this to figure out this evening what we can do. These poor women are beyond our help. Now, Susan, I want you to cry out softly and I am going to slap you. Fall to the ground like it was worse than it actually is. Does everyone understand?"

They all nodded except Susan. She said, "No." I slapped her hard enough to leave a mark but with sound that made it sound worse. She fell hard. I walked back to the Primary without looking back and the table as Katina lifted Susan up as she sobbed.
