Sarah turned her attention to Adam when she concluded her call with Reanna/Tara.
"It amaze me how people like you and Rachelle can do that," he said. "I can't. You're looking 10 steps ahead of where we are now. I can barely comprehend what's happening today, let alone think about what we should be doing in a few months."
Sarah shrugged demurely.
"It's more of a wish list," she said. "This is going to take off. Wait and see. Allie will convince Tate to meet with everyone. That will be all it takes. We have the skills to make it work. We just have to get our foot in the door. You've given us the crack we needed."
"I didn't do anything," Adam protested.
"But you did," Sarah maintained. "You showed Tate how a professional acts – just like you showed me and Allie."
"If anything, you showed me," Adam told her.
"I thought you were cute and I was on my best behavior," she admitted. "My first job was a mess. I was a mess. Tara had to literally walk me through every step of making sure I got to where I was supposed to be when I was supposed to be there and with what I was supposed to bring. You got a call and a few hours later you were there, ready to work. You had sense enough to think ahead to what you might need – including drinks for everyone. Then you admitted you had no idea what you should be doing and gave way to others you thought might. The quality of the scene was secondary but it was just as important. Holly and Randy got a glimpse of how things could be done if they dealt solely with people like you.
"They passed that word to Tate via the internet. Ben got the same thing – from you and from Allie. I think that surprised both of them. Allie isn't hard to deal with, as you know. But she can be a handful if she gets angry over something. The other problem companies found when trying to deal with her was the whole Sven thing. Ben and Tate got a taste of how easy – and profitable – their jobs can be. They'll back us. I don't know who runs Dazzle but I think they will too, simply because it will save them money. We can do this, Adam. We can make a good living and help people who find their way into this business at the same time."
"I guess so," Adam admitted reluctantly. "I mean, I just treated my employer the way I would have anyone who hired me. I would have stood up for myself if I had to. I did with Frank Merks and Amber Weaves at the first shoot."
"Exactly," Sarah said. "Professionalism begets professionalism. You act as a professional so you are treated as a professional. Now, what jobs did you turn down?"
"A couple of web shoots," Adam admitted. "One was for something called 'Femmes on Patrol' the other was for some woman's personal web site. I think the name of it was 'Robin's Quest.'"
"'Femmes on Patrol' might have been cool," Sarah said with a smirk. "Did you look at the site?"
"No but the lady explained it to me," Adam said. "I wasn't interested. I would have done it if you and Allie were involved but they already had the females cast."
"So you turned down a chance to fuck three or four hot babes because you couldn't work with us?" Sarah asked. "You know, they only cast the hottest girls. Who were they?"
"Uh, I don't remember," Adam said. "Let me get my notebook. I took notes as we were talking about."
He walked to his backpack and pulled out a binder.
"Sadie Strutt, Heidi Gray and Maeve something," he said. "I didn't write down her last name."
"She doesn't have one," Sarah said with a laugh. "She is a big draw. It could have opened a lot of doors for you. Sadie and Heidi are pretty big names, too. Look, when we said we only wanted to work with you, we understood that you would have to work with others besides us. At least I did and I'm sure Allie did, too."
Adam shrugged. He knew the likelihood of them always working together was slim. Females could hand pick their co-stars and some of them did. Guys didn't get that choice.
