She had seen him several times at the intramural building since the start of the semester, on the treadmill or doing weights. This morning he was on the mats kidding around with some football guy. “Don’t cheat now,” he told his friend when the count got to 25. “You got to go all the way up, and you got to go down til you feel your pecker touch the mat.” The friend scoffed. “Fuck, Dwayne, maybe your pecker’s bigger than mine.” They laughed, and the football guy rolled over on his back like a big puppy and the other guy, Dwayne, headed for the locker room.
Twenty minutes later she met him just outside the building. “Hey,” she called out. “Dwayne?”
He turned to her. “Yeah?”
She gave him her best smile. “My roommate’s out of town this week, and I was wondering if you could come over, maybe tonight? Maybe teach me how to do proper pushups?”
His eyes showed interest. “Yeah, well, I have practice til 9.”
