Daniel was down in the basement when Emma’s call came in.
“Oh, Daniel. Hi! I hope this isn’t too early.”
“No. I love hearing your voice. And that’s an understatement.”
“I miss you so much.”
“Me too. I can’t wait for you to get home.”
“Me too. It’ll only be two more days.”
“That’s two too many.”
“I know. If there were only some way ... So Daniel, what are you up to?”
“Nothing much. I’m down in the basement doing laundry. There was this clunking sound in the dryer.”
“Oh? You mean like a clunk, clunk, clunk?”
“More of a pink, pink, pink. It turned out to be a coin.”
“A coin?”
“Yeah, a strange coin. Or maybe some kind of token. I don’t know where it came from. I’d never seen it before.”
“Mysterious. Do you think it’s valuable?”
“I don’t know.”
“Maybe it’s a wishing coin.”
“That would be nice. I know what I’d wish for.”
“What?”
“That you were here, right now, in my arms.”
“Oh Daniel, I wish you could wish that and it would come true.”
“That would be wonderful.”
