My wife and I had been married less than two years so we were still pretty much newlyweds. Even though we already had our little addition to our family, my wife often told me that she still felt like we were newlyweds.

She and I wanted to drive from our home out to South Western New Mexico and visit with some good friends while we still had the time. We hadn’t had a honeymoon nor had we taken any vacation and we wanted to take a little time for ourselves.

Our little girl was only a few months old and we left her with my wife’s Mother in the Midwest. We left her Mother’s home and drove west to stop and visit with my Brother, his wife and little girl who lived in North-Central, Oklahoma.

We had estimated that the distance of our travel to New Mexico would be 1,600 miles. We traveled from her Mother’s home to my Brother’s home the first day and spent a day with him and his family. It was a long day’s drive and we were pretty tired by the time we got there that evening.

The day after that we continued south west into Texas and headed south in Texas until just before dark. We stopped in a little town less than 100 miles from the Texas New Mexico state line to have our evening meal.

It was after dark when we had finished eating our meal and we continued on west into New Mexico. Once we had left the little town where we had eaten our meal the lights of the town receded very rapidly behind us and there were no lights along the highway as we were traveling through Ranch Country. In the Midwest when you are traveling between towns there are lights from homes, farms, businesses and other out buildings. But, here there were none.

We would occasionally see the road way that led to a ranch house but there were no lights from homes or out buildings that indicate the presence of people. For some reason my wife became very amorous with me while I was driving. Maybe it was the lack of lights and the feeling of privacy much like in our bedroom.
