My wife and I had not been married very long. We had one little girl who was just a toddler who was walking and talking. Then our little boy was still in diapers and he was crawling and pulling up beside the furniture.

Those two little tykes were the light of our lives and gave us unlimited love and joy. They were both the cutest little angels we had ever seen. Of course, every young couple with a very young family knows that their offspring are the cutest little angels they had ever seen.

I was working shift work where I worked one week on a shift and then rotated to the next shift after two days off. The schedule was to work the daylight shift and then to midnights then to afternoons. Needless to say, working that rotating shift schedule was certainly not conducive to a stable family life and it was even worse on one’s regular sleeping habits and love making.

On those nights where I had to get up early to go to work the next day I always tried to go to bed and a time to get sufficient rest. I had gone to bed and I had gone totally sound asleep. My wife had come to bed some time after I did and I certainly didn’t remember when she came to bed. She, like I am, is a pretty sound sleeper.

I didn’t then and still don’t know what caused me to become semi awake but I did and I found that my wife was sleeping beside me. I raised her nightie and since she never wore her nightie bottoms to bed I rolled over on top of her thinking that she would feel my presence and let me know if she didn’t want us to make late night love that night.

We made love, or maybe I should say in hindsight, I made love with her and we both went back to sleep. Again maybe I should say that I went back to sleep because I later learned that she had never awakened that night for our love making. As usual I got up with my alarm and prepared to go to work on the daylight shift of 7 AM to 3 PM.
