"Beverly, we need to have a little talk."

A very concerned look crossed her face and I could see that she was expecting the worst. I leaned forward and held her head in my hands as our lips touched and I gave her a thorough kissing.

"What was that for?" she asked.

"You looked worried when I said we needed to talk sweetheart. I don't want you to be worried. I expect we'll both enjoy our conversation."

The smile that crossed her face when she heard me call her sweetheart was just beautiful!

"Will you come to the living room with me?" I asked.

"Anything you say Mark," Beverly said as she headed towards the living room.

Before I sat down in the recliner I unbuckled my belt and stepped out of my pants. Beverly took them from me and laid them on the sofa so they wouldn't wrinkle. I kicked off my boxers and pulled of my shirt. Beverly took both items and folded them neatly placing them near my pants.

"That means that Lynn, the kids, and I will be here in St. Louis and we want you to live with us — you're part of our family dear heart!"

"You're going to be here all of the time! You'll all be in St. Louis! That's so wonderful — like a dream come true for me Mark!"

"Me to Beverly. And Lynn wants it as much as you and I do.

"Now I need to ask: Would you mind if we all moved in to this house?"

"I don't understand why you'd have to ask Mark."

"What do you mean? It's your house."

"I guess there will be a lot of times that I will wish Dave had his talk with you Mark. Dave gave me to you Mark and now that he's gone I'm totally yours. And that means that everything I have is yours to do with as you like. Even if it wasn't that way I would love to have you, Lynn, and the kids here; but it is entirely your decision Mark and I will be happy with whatever you decide as long as I can be near you."

"Well if that's the way it is, we will be moving in here Beverly so we can all be together as a family. That means that our task for the rest of this week and the next is to get ready for that move. We have been focusing on what things of Dave's that Lynn or the kids might want. Now we can just let them tell us about that when they get here. For now we'll focus on getting rooms ready for the kids and removing anything they might not be ready to see just yet. How does that sound?"

The package Bill mentioned arrived the next day by ten in the morning and as I carried it to the den I marveled at just how heavy the package was. I spent most of the morning working my way through the various pieces of information and was very happy to realize that the budgets were quite generous as was the compensation package I was being given. I had no problems with any of it. I signed the partnership agreement in front of a notary public and paid to have all of it copied. I sent the original back to Bill via Fed Ex.

I also found a personal note from Bill in the package that authorized me to charge any goods or services I might need to my corporate card. A charge code was provided for the St. Louis branch and I was to use that for itemizing any startup expenses. As the managing partner for St. Louis I would now see the monthly financials and be able to make sure I was remaining within budget.

I looked at the den I was sitting in and realized that it wouldn't take much to create a nice home office right here. The room was about 14 feet by 22 feet and had a nice sized dark walnut desk and matching book shelves. To make this work right I'd need a decent copier and fax unit as well as a printer. A decade later that would have been once nice compact unit that could also be used as a scanner, but in 1993 no such device existed. I thought about what else I would want and decided on a nice laptop computer with a docking station as well as two additional desktop units, one to act as my network and database server and the other as an additional workstation.
