Night was approaching and the stars were bright. The mosquitoes were just beginning to arrive. “It’s a new technology,” Nils explained to Emma as he launched the drone. “The idea is that the noise it makes attracts mosquitoes, and they follow it to their doom.”

Emma expressed some doubt. “I thought mosquitoes were attracted to blood.”

“That’s what the drone’s red paint represents,” Nils clarified.

“Well, I’m just glad mosquitoes aren’t that big—although it would make them easier to spot.”
