Tessa busied herself preparing dinner. “Can I help you?” David offered.

“Could you ever!” She taunted. “I’m fine, thank you.”

Marcus guided David onto the balcony that overlooked the small bay. Lady and Shadow, free of their leash, followed him. “David, I’m glad you came back, not because you’re the best motorcycle mechanic I’ve had, but because of Rita. She loves you.”

“I know she does, and I told her I love her too,” he replied as they leaned against the glass railing.

“You’ve always been like a son to us.”

“Thank you. You and Tessa have always made me feel welcomed. If you and Tessa will consent, I’d like to become your son-in-law.”
