Chapter 80: Unexpected Opportunity

Fantasy Sex Story: Chapter 80: Unexpected Opportunity - For fifty years since the capture and transportation of their forebears to Thurn, the women of a race the Thurnians call Elves have been at the mercy of the citizens of Thurn. Although talented in metal and leather work, it is the Elves beauty and sexual allure to Thurnian men which is in most demand. Wealthy men are now creating private harems of Elf Maidens while government officials wrestle with the problem of the ever-increasing population of Elves in Thurn.

I’m impressed by Ester’s ability to navigate the endless corridors of the Grand Hall without getting lost. I’m not sure I could find our room on my own. We pass through several archways that briefly dowse us in blue light. Ester becomes more confident. Her nervousness at being in the Grand Hall without proper authorisation gradually eases.

When we enter our room, I find a fresh set of clothing laid out on my bed. The clothing is one of the soft grey shirt and trousers Ester and the other women wear around the administration complex. There’s an orange lace choker among the clothes. Ester gasps when she sees the choker.

“This choker denotes the wearer as a Deputy, First Tier,” says Ester, awed at the beautiful filigree interwoven with the lace of the choker.

“Deputy to who?” I ask, uncertain whether I should be pleased or alarmed at this development.

“I don’t know,” replies Ester. “We must ask Lissa in the morning.”

“Isn’t that another choker on your bed?” I ask pointing to a yellow choker on Ester’s bed besides the clothing she had requested from her dormitory.

“Oh my!” squeals Ester in surprise. “A Deputy Assistant, Second Tier choker. Does that mean that I’ve been promoted?”

Ester’s question is clearly rhetorical since I’ve no means of providing an answer. She doesn’t hesitate to swap her white choker for the yellow one. Hopefully that means being in the Grand Hall without a permit is no longer an issue. I look at the clothing on my bed. There’s no point in me changing clothes before bed, but I try on the orange choker to assess how it will fit with Tayn’s collar. Fortunately the choker fits comfortably above the collar without irritating my throat.

Ester and I prepare for bed. While Ester has a nightgown retrieved from her usual dormitory, there’s no nightwear for me. I’m used to sleeping naked, even before my union with Tayn. At first I’m unsure whether I should wear my ‘foreigner clothing’ in bed. However I recall Ester had no qualms at entering the shower with me, and answering the door while undressed.

The rising sun shining through the single window in our room wakes me. Ester is already awake and dressed. I roll out of bed and attend to my ablutions. By the time I’ve finished washing myself, breakfast has been delivered for us both. I quickly change into the shirt and trousers that were left last night, and join Ester at the small table.

“Did you sleep alright?” asks Ester. “I was too excited to sleep for long.”

“Yes. I think I was exhausted by the time we finished last night. What happens now?”

“We wait for instructions,” replies Ester, as though sitting around waiting is a regular feature of her life.

Fortunately Lissa arrives within the next halfanhour and escorts Ester and me to the High Marshal’s audience chamber. There we sit and wait for a while before the High Marshal joins us. Yet again, it appears that Ester will need to translate my words as neither the High Marshal nor Lissa wear a translating device.

“The High Marshal requires Katarine’s agreement to the following arrangement,” says Lissa, as though Ester is the only person capable of understanding Lissa’s words. “Firstly, Katarine will be granted full citizenship of Floren. She will hold the rank of Deputy, First Tier, to the High Marshal.”

Ester lets out an involuntary gasp at the announcement.

“Secondly, Katarine will be tasked with learning and communicating with Helios Twelve. The defence and safety of Floren relies on the knowledge and intelligence gathered from Helios Twelve, so that must be Katarine’s priority. Beyond that she is permitted to learn whatever she can from Helios Twelve. Living accommodation will be provided for her within the Domain.”

“What if I don’t agree to this arrangement?” I ask, obliging Ester to translate my words.

“Then, as a potentially dangerous visitor to Floren, you will be sent to the slave market and you will never see Tayn again,” says the High Marshal, addressing me directly. “You seem to be attached to my wayward son, so I suggest you consider your response to my offer carefully. Someone who can communicate with Helios Twelve is too dangerous for me to allow to roam free.”

“Will Tayn be freed of his chains and allowed to live with me if I agree to your terms?” I ask.

“He will,” replies the High Marshal. “However his duties may require him to travel. In time he may become the next High Marshal, although I plan on living for many years yet.”

I feel trapped. My natural inclination is to find a means of escaping. However, I can’t deny the attraction of being able to learn what I can from Helios Twelve. And my bond to Tayn cannot be overlooked. Even if I somehow escaped, Tayn’s relationship to the High Marshal poses a problem. I must also consider the fledgling settlement on Madiana. So far the Floren seem ignorant of the new settlement, and I stand a better chance of keeping it that way if I am here. I dread to think of the fate that may befall the Tomyris if the High Marshal realises that they will all be able to communicate with Helios Twelve.

“I wish to talk with Tayn before I give you an answer,” I demand through Ester.

At first I think my demand will be refused, but Lissa leaves us for a short while, and returns with Tayn. He’s still in shackles and he looks as though he’s had an uncomfortable night in some cell. I tell Ester to remove her translating device so that I can talk with Tayn in private. Or at least, I hope our conversation is private, since I’ve no idea whether any of the Floren present can understand the elven language.

Tayn spares me from a noble speech about how I should abandon him to his fate and look after my own best interests. He knows me well enough to realise the futility of such a gesture. We are a bonded pair and neither of us will sacrifice the other for selfish gain. My problem is that I don’t really know what are my own best interests. I’ve no special skills to help the Tomyris more than I’ve done so already. Returning to Madiana seems to be out of the question, or at least fraught with danger to everyone there. Staying in Floren means that I have access to knowledge I can only dream about, but at the price of living in a gilded cage. What tips my decision is Tayn’s reminder that the High Marshal is an old man. He may wish to live for many more years, but nature will decide that. A new high Marshal ... possibly Tayn himself ... will have a different outlook.

“Free Tayn of his shackles and I will agree to your arrangement,” I say.

I need to repeat my words since I forgot to ask Ester to replace her translating device. The High Marshal leaves us now that I’ve agreed to his terms. Lissa removes Tayn’s shackles and he and I kiss and embrace.

“Ester has been reassigned to be your assistant for as long as you need her,” says Lissa. “She will show you to your new accommodation and be your guide until you are familiar with the Domain.”
