I sat at the end of the group of tables, watching the girls as shopping trips and wardrobes were planned for the upcoming party. I was holding an empty chair next to me for Candy, and hoping they opened the serving line soon. I was starving for some reason.

“Nicky?”I thought. “Would you do me two favors?”

“Of course!” she thought back to me. “I’ll be available to screw your brains out in just a few minutes. That is one of the favors, right?”

“Better make it three favors then!” I thought back.

“God! I love you!” Nicky gushed. “Okay, what are the other two?”

“Would you make sure Vickie has everything she needs for the party and all? At my expense. Only don’t tell her it’s me. Okay?”

“I was already doing that, but thanks for thinking of it. You are wonderful!” Nicky replied. “What else?”

“Is there a spa or something that fixes your hair, paints your nails and all that stuff, near our home in New York?”

“Of course. What color are you thinking of having your nails done?” she quipped as she giggled in her mind.

“Would you mind calling them and make reservations for sixteen full treatments for next Saturday morning. Rent the whole place for the day if necessary. Just make sure everyone is taken care of,” I told her.

“I’ll try, but you really should have Grace do it,” Nicky thought back.

“Damn! I should have thought of that! You’re a doll! Thanks sis!” I thought lovingly.

“That’s okay. When she gets back, have her come to me for the details,” Nicky said. “You’ll need security, too.”

“Thanks, Sis. You’re the best!” I told her.

“Is that you, Michael? Are you here?” Grace’s voice was suddenly in my head. Because we were connected, Nicky could hear her, too.

“Grace! You’re back! Where are you? We’re in the Dining Hall having dinner,” Nicky thought excitedly.

“I’m sitting in the bleachers on the football field. They moved the graduation exercises out here because the weather was nice. Natalie just finished and she was great! I’m so proud of her. Now, it’s just boring. All these big wigs feel like they have to talk us to death one more time. How are you doing this Michael? I mean from so far away?” Grace asked.

“I don’t know. I thought I was sensing you a couple of hours ago...”

“What was I doing?” Grace interrupted quickly. I could feel her blushing.

“Ah, you were ... er ... feeling good!” I teased.

“I ... ah, oh what’s the use? You can see everything. I just hope you’re happy Mister Know-It-All! I don’t know if I can do this. I mean I go thousands of miles away from you and you still catch me jilling off! A person needs their privacy, Michael. You can’t...”

“THAT’S IT!” I cried, interrupting Grace’s rant.

I was so excited, I stood up. I don’t know where I thought I was going, and realized I must look stupid just standing there. So I went to the drink station to get some more iced tea.

“That’s it, Grace. You’re angry,” I said.

“You’re darned right I’m angry! If I’m going to be with you, we’ve got to work on the privacy issue,” she said.

“But anger is an emotion. The greater your emotions, the easier it is too read you. When you got upset just now, you suddenly became clearer,” I explained. “And this afternoon when you were, er, enjoying yourself, you were emotional as well. I’ll bet that’s why I sensed you then!”

“That’s great, Michael. I’m glad you figured that out. But we have got to do something about my privacy!” Grace thought still a little miffed.

“Why don’t we talk to Catherine when you get back? She has something she does. Maybe she can teach you to do it to,” I suggested.

“Oh! That reminds me. We got Catherine’s message about flying back tonight after graduation, but she didn’t say why. And what did Nicky want me to do for you?” Grace asked.

“Why don’t I just replay it for you?”

“Okay. But they should start calling us up for our diploma’s soon,” she warned me.

“All right. But remember, try not to react visibly to this,” I warned as I started the replay from where I entered the Dining Hall to meet The Kapaemala’s.

I felt her flinch when Kalani asked me to father the next Queen. And she almost spoke out loud when I hurt Catherine. When it ended, she remained silent for a long moment.

“Can you connect me to Catherine? Quickly?” Grace finally asked.

I tapped Catherine on her mental should as I connected her.

“Excuse me. I have a long distance thought for you from your granddaughter in Tennessee. Will you accept the charges?” I quipped.

“You did it? You really reached her?” Catherine responded.

“Catherine, this is Grace.” Grace said, jumping into the conversation hurriedly.

“Grace! How are you, dear? Have you graduated yet?” Catherine asked.

“They’re about to call us up. Michael just replayed the afternoon for me and I just had to hear your voice, or whatever this is! Are you sure you’re okay?”

“Yes, Sweetheart. I’m fine. I had a headache for an hour, but other than that I’m good as ever. I did experience something I want to share with you when you get back, though. Did you get my message about flying back tonight?”

“Yes. David and Beth are here with us, and then they are taking us straight to the airport. I’ll see you...”

She was interrupted where she was, then she said, “They’re calling our row to go up. I love you and we’ll see you tomorrow, bright and early. I love you.”

“I love you too, Sweetheart. Congratulations and safe travels,” Catherine thought.

“Tell Michael, I love him too!” she added.

“I think he heard you. Go and graduate!” Catherine told her.

I cut the connection and slumped down in my chair. I hadn’t realized it, but it had really drained me.

Catherine now stood over me.

“Michael? Are you alright?” she asked concerned.

“I’ll be okay in a few minutes. It just really drained me. I guess it was the distance,” I said tiredly.

She looked up and waved to Candy.

“Candy, Michael just figured out how to connect with Grace, even though she’s in Tennessee. But the effort seems to have drained him. I would like you to stay with him and take care of him the rest of the evening. Make sure he gets something to eat and drink to replace all the energy he used. I’ll relieve you in the morning. Can you do that for me?” Catherine asked her.

The smile that lit Candy’s face was only slightly less bright than the beacon in the Oak Island Lighthouse.

“Yes, Ma’am. I’ll take very good care of him!” she replied.

When they opened the serving line a few minutes later, Candy wouldn’t let me move. Instead she brought me a tray loaded with two servings of everything.

“I’ve got to make sure you keep your strength up for later,” she quipped with a big grin.

Sandy came in and sat at the table next to ours. Since she didn’t say anything, I wasn’t too sure about initiating a conversation, so I just waved. I noticed a few minutes later that Anna went over to sit with her.

“Michael, come sit with us for a minute,” Anna called.

So I moved to an empty chair across from the sisters. I was still unsure about scanning anyone, but finally decided to try. I scanned her lightly and saw she was nervous of what I would say when she apologized about last night. So I spoke first.

“Sandy, if you’re going to apologize for anything, make it for being late to dinner. You did nothing wrong last night,” I told her

“Oh, Michael. I feel so bad about what happened,” Sandy said.

“Don’t! I told you, it’s not necessary.”

“But I practically raped you. And you’re a minor. You could have called the cops and had me arrested,” she said, shuddering at the thought of being arrested.

“But I did call the cops! Well, the CIA anyway. And they just sent me to my room!” I said, laughing. Anna laughed too.

“Michael. I need to talk to you about what happened. I want to explain,” Sandy said.

“You have been afraid for three years. You decided not to be afraid any more. When you made that decision, all of your pent up frustrations and desires came to the surface and you were overwhelmed and reacted to the stimulus I was providing,” I told her. “How am I doing so far?”

“How ... how did you do that?” Sandy said as she sat there, amazed.

Anna placed her hand on Sandy’s arm.

“Sandy, Michael’s an Empath. He can read your emotions and any thoughts associated with them. That’s how he knew what you were feeling last night,” she explained to her little sister. “And just now.”

“An Empath. Is that like a telepath?” Sandy asked. “He can read my thoughts?”

“Well, it’s more like he can read what you’re feeling. And since most emotions have motivation or thoughts with them, he reads them too,” Anna told her.

“Oh. Then he already knows about the dream?” Sandy asked.

“Only if you recall it with any feeling, like you are right now,” I explained.

“So that’s how you knew about Pete and my dress and the dance. You felt my memory?” Sandy asked.

I nodded.

“Then that’s how you knew how bad I felt about what happened and what I wanted to apologize for?” Sandy asked.

I nodded again. “That’s also why I said you didn’t owe me one. I knew last night what you were experiencing. I also knew that you weren’t protected and that it wasn’t the right time for you to become pregnant. And let me tell you, you had me so turned on. Pushing you away was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I think you are incredibly sexy and I wanted you really bad!”

“Really?” she asked smiling for the first time.

“Yeah. It wasn’t until after I went to sleep that I finally understood why. Will you remember your dream and let me scan you while you do? Then I’ll tell you about mine.”

She did, offering a commentary as she remembered it.

“It started out very romantic, just like last night, and then it got really hot. I mean passionate. As we were, er, doing it, I remember reminding myself that you are five years younger than me. Then it changed and there was a something. Not really a voice or a vision or anything, telling me that it was all right. That it was ordained that I would bear your child and it would be a boy. And that he would become this great leader saving a new world,” Sandy explained.

I nodded. This was consistent with what I was reading.

“After I felt the whatever, I knew that everything would be all right. So I quit worrying about never having had a good lover or anything. Somehow, I knew that it would finally be okay,” Sandy told me.

“When I woke up this morning, I didn’t feel the fear of growing old alone. I knew deep inside you were going to take care of me. That’s when I started worrying about what I did to you last night. What if you wouldn’t even talk to me and the dream wasn’t true. But I told Anna and she said I should just come and talk to you,” Sandy said running on. “I must have walked the porch a hundred times before I got enough nerve to come in here tonight. So please, tell me that my dream was not a lie. Tell me that you’re not mad at me!”
