The Moment 4/2/2009
Sometimes the moment brings such wonderful surprises
As I baby step through life, hoping for more steps
But not knowing where my steps will take me
Not knowing if the steps will go on tomorrow, or until I ache in stepping
I know what went before me, both with whom I love and what I’ve loved
I know about today, of how the morning opened with a stretch and stifled yawn
I know about the hunger before dinner—dishpan hands. It is 7 ... will I know 8?
Probably—almost a sure bet, but will I bet it all?
No matter, it’s in the wealth of feeling that radiates my time
The friendships standing firm, my loved ones, perhaps the extension of their loves
Hard to know beyond that, I speculate and wonder how they feel—like me, I’m sure
And now I’m fed and warm and toasty—secure, I feel secure
I think about this day and the richness that entered my life
I heard a sound today that warmed the cockles of my heart, made me feel—here
The sound came from familiar lips. I felt embraced
Embraced by words that flew across the table—from a sweet familiar voice.
