The clinical trial had gone horribly wrong. The new drug under development was supposed to help women who had trouble getting interested in sex. “Aphr-OH-dite” was touted to be “the women’s answer to Viagra”, and the scientists were eager to see if their new experimental drug would live up to the hype.

Pharmex Industries, the maker of this new wonder drug, “Aphr-OH-dite”, had invested millions of dollars and two years of research to get it to this stage. They had put the drug through dozens of tests for safety and interreactions with commonly used drugs. And everything had performed even better than they expected. They had no reason to think anything could go wrong.

Finally, it came time for the first human test trials. Because this was a sexual enhancement drug and not a lifesaving medicine, they didn’t feel the pressure to push the trials too hard. So they wisely decided to start with a very small first test group. They put the word out that they were looking for twelve women to participate in this first trial. They wanted six ladies to take the drug and six to take a placebo – a sugar pill that looked identical to the real medicine. “Come over here and I’ll show you our ‘project’.” He pulled the curtain back to reveal a two-way mirror. We take shifts during lunch – we can’t leave Maria alone unsupervised because of her condition. So I’ll go to lunch now and be back in an hour to relieve you so you can go eat. You can eat here in the company cafeteria or go off-site to eat. Just remember not to talk about or say anything to anyone about what is going on here.”

“I won’t Dr. Phillips ... I understand the need for secrecy,” Adam said.

“Good boy. Okay, I will be back in an hour,” he said.
